We like the food except for the general tso tofu. Tofu was cold and sauce was not general tso. The main reason for review is the horrible customer service and hospitality. My toddler hurt her finger in the lady's bathroom. The handicap stall door and lock is jammed. I was trying to push the door open and didn't realize my daughter had her finger on part of the lock. She did get hurt and requested a bandaid to feel better. My dad asked the host for a band aid and the host rudely said no. What restaurant doesn't have a band-aid? Do they not have first aid kits? We want to support restaurants but this establishment doesn't appreciate their patrons so dine at your own risk. I was going to tell them about their door and what happened to my daughter but everyone was rude throughout the night. I just wanted to leave and not cause a scene. Fyi...went to Five Below and asked if they carried band-aid. The salesperson asked me if it was to buy or if I immediately need it. Told her it was for my toddler and she quickly ran to get me a band-aid out of their first aid kit. This restaurant needs to get customer service training from FiveBelow. Unfortunately I will not be supporting this restaurant.
Edit to Cheng Du Response: To my knowledge, you don't need to wear a mask while eating and drinking. We were seated only a few steps away from the host area and my dad was at the table finishing up his tea. Like all grandparents, my dad was concern for his granddaughter that he just wanted to console her with a band-aid that he forgot to put up his mask when getting up from the table. The host could have just politely reminded my dad to slide his mask on and politely say they don't have band-aids at the front. Your host or someone in the front just rudely said "NO". The dining experience wasn't great so there's no reason to continue to carry on a conversation with a Manager that doesn't train their staff with great customer service. There was no "can I get you something else"..."is everything OK..".My husband asked for a Gatorade and the response was" It's over there". Honestly I think this establishment should just go back to take out only. We've been to other establishments during this crazy time and they are very grateful for...
Read moreWe went to this restaurant based on generally positive reviews. I did notice some reviews that mentioned poor customer service/attitude of the staff but I didn't imagine this would be much of an issue. I was wrong. The waiters rush you to make your order. When they bring your drinks, they almost throw the cans of soda in your face. They also threw down some straws on the table like they were feeding dogs. When the food arrived, they had no idea who ordered what and kept putting the wrong plate in front of people. For some of us, they just handed us the plate at arm's length instead of placing it on the table. There was one waiter who was nice. He tried to make conversation and helped to bring us some hot sauce. In the end when we went to pay our bill, I couldn't believe my ears when the person ringing us up complained about the tip. He said, "Is that it?", in the rudest way you can imagine. I looked at him and said "yes". Then going back to the table to get the rest of our party, we promptly walked out. On our way out, the man who had charged our credit card followed behind us loudly complaining to himself about our tip. Absolutely the worst customer service I have ever seen in a restaurant. Completely inexcusable. Without hesitation, I would advise others to try their luck elsewhere.
In terms of the food, it was about the average you would expect for a sit-down Chinese restaurant. It was not bad but definitely nothing special. I have definitely had better food, although with slightly higher prices. The prices here were also about average. Although there were some things that seemed a little expensive; like $9 for a plate...
Read moreWe have heard the hyped about this place and read all different reviews, and traveled down 3 hours to try it out, it does not disappoint is an huge understatement! So amazingly good.
One of the absolute top notch AUTHENTIC Sichuan cuisine in the NJ and NY regions. There are tons of Sichuan Restaurant, none of which can be as authentic as this one. Sichuan cuisines are not always gonna be super spicy, the really authentic cooking is to incorporate a combination of different levels and types of flavors, spices, numbness, and aroma, and all of these above should not overwhelm each other.
At this point, we have already gone to this restaurant twice in 6 months. We ordered various dishes, such as sauteed pork kidney, crispy pork intestines, sauteed garlic bean sprouts, Sichuan Spicy Pot, spicy tofu fish fillet, and etc. All of these dishes above were absolutely magnificent, packed with authentic flavors, the key word again here is authentic. The sauteed pork kidney and crispy pork intestines were cooked in full of aromatic flavors, without a hint of any unplesant porky organ taste at all. But the spicy tofu fish fillet is our favorite, the tofu was so silky soft but stayed in shape, and the fish fillets are soaked with the right kind of numbness, spices, and spicy flavors.
The interior design of Chengdu 23 I have to say is mediocre, nothing fancy, looks just like typical Chinese restaurant. It is located at inside a plaza and the sign of the restaurant outside is quite small which can be...
