Here's the jist of the new smokehouse in Wentzville: cute setting, great potential- BUT- the chairs outside were horribly uncomfortable (all 4 average sized ppl) in our group complained about them at some point. The menu only contains smoked prepared food. Granted it's a smokehouse- but they should recognize not all ppl in the group may not like the smoke taste. A few options are needed for those who don't care for it. They don't have salad, the menu is small. The fried pickle chip appetizer was super soggy. The fries were a joke (limp and grease soaked). The shrimp had an over done "strange" not good flavor. The jalapeno poppers were not poppin at all. The bacon on the outside was a sogfest. Mac n cheese was cafeteria bland. The only good item out of 4ppls orders was the chili cheese nachos (but even those needed more chips).
I'm a 100% foodie - Love all aspects (eating, cooking, reading, watching) etc. I would love to help this place out. I could flip the food scene around for them 10 fold in one afternoon's time.
Tips for the restaurant: Invest in comfortable seating (ppl won't stay and drink when they are trying to hurry because their butt hurts) Flour, egg, & panko dreg your fried pickles Twice fry home made fries they become crispy Offer smokeless option If you're going to bacon wrap the poppers deep fry them until crispy (or remove the bacon and just serve a good smoked stuffed pepper) Layer nachos- chips toppings chips toppings
Lastly, the prices are steep for what you get. Offer lunch and drink specials especially. 4ppl went to lunch on a Thursday and it was $66. That's a lot for not so good food. Service was great and the good came fairly quick, but I'm assuming that's because it needs a lot of work.
Hope this helps! Let me know...
Read moreMy gf and we’re excited to try this place out, unfortunately while the drinks were good, the rest of the experience was not. For appetizers we got house made pork rinds and brisket nachos. The pork rinds were almost impossible to chew due to being undercooked, and the nacho chips were very stale. My gf and I actually laughed off the fact we had to fight over the one small piece of meat that was on the nachos.
Finally the food came. We ordered burnt ends, pork belly, with Mac and cheese and potato salad. Not only were the portions unusually small for the price, the food yet again was horrible. It tasted like yesterday meat reheated in the microwave. We did not eat anymore, instead we set it aside and waited for the waiter to come back. I asked for the check and walked inside with man to quietly explain what had happened, And let him know that I would happily pay for our drinks and appetizers, but not the entree since we didn’t take more then a bite. When the manager came, instead of taking my card she was extremely sarcastic about the fact that we must be crazy for not loving their food like everyone else.. I’m only writing this review because of how she acted towards us. Not only was the food horrendous but so was manager/bartender. We were extremely polite about our food, and willing to pay, only to be disrespected by that disgusting woman..
2 stars only because we liked our drinks..
Do yourself a favor, try SUGARFIRE, HEAVY SMOKE, PAPPYS, SALT n SMOKE, really anywhere is better then this poor excuse for...

At Christmas, we received a $50 gift certificate from family members to the Old Town Smokehouse. We went to the restaurant and had drinks and dinner. When we went to pay, they said they could not accept the gift certificate. The owner told my wife and I, “the business is under new ownership and the previous owners did not mention to them that there were $3,000 in outstanding gift certificates and that this was not in their business plan”. I said “that’s not my problem, and you should honor this gift certificate”. They finally agreed to only honor ½ ($25). There were no signs posted in the restaurant at that time indicating they would not accept gift certificates (otherwise he would have shown it to us). I was still not happy and said "I hope this $25 is worth losing a dedicated customer".
After several months, the owner had a chance to make things right and instead he decided to slander and harass me on Facebook, posting my picture, several defamatory and false remarks. Many people reached out to me appalled by this post and knew this was not true. The restaurant has since removed the post from their Facebook page. This issue has been escalated to the City Mayor and the Wentzville Police department. This is not the way a business should treat their customers.
I would not recommend eating at this establishment…extremely poor...
