Whomever owns this place should be concerned. We've lived in and around the West Chester area our whole lives. This place has gone through a lot of changes over the years, but it has held on lately with great food and a great selection of beers on tap. My wife and I don't get out much any more so Valentines was a good excuse for us to enjoy ourselves with some friends. We brought along a friend who's fiance hadn't been to West Chester before. Last night Side Bar was our last stop for the evening. When it came time to close down the bar lets just say they didn't politely ask us to leave. They physically removed us from the building. We were asked to take it downstairs which was no problem. We did. Most of our friends finished up their drinks and went out the door. The friend who hadn't been to West Chester before had about a 1/2 glass of beer left. So we stood at the bar downstairs while he finished it up. I believe it was the manager? who came over and started to yell at me in my face telling me that he told me several times to leave. Well that was the first time I had seen him. Unbelievable. I had worked in restaurants for almost 20 years myself, even as a bouncer at Iron Hill when it opened up years ago. You don't treat your customers or human beings for that matter like this. I would understand if I was belligerent or starting a fight. But I was having a simple conversation, and then out of nowhere we had this guy in our face and we were physically removed. We will not be back and I will be sharing this experience...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe went to the Side Bar for my wife's 65th Birthday brunch. We entered to an almost empty upstairs dining room with music blaring. They briefly turned the volume down upon request. The ambiance was pleasant enough. The server greeted us quickly and pleasantly. As our visit progressed, it was obvious that this place is not ready for primetime when it comes to brunch. Our coffee, while decent tasting, was served without spoons, and without sweeteners. It turns out that after the initial offering, the server was required to run each cup downstairs individually, since there was no carafe available! The order was taken and we waited...then the food dribbled out..seven of our party had finished their meals before the last three were served. I had asked for my chipped beef to be delivered over the potatoes..it wasn't. The server said " Well it's a meal; that's how we do it." It wasn't what I had asked for. The music was drowning out by the room noise by the time we departed. We had to shout across the table. Some sound absorbers would be good. The actual food was good, but things need to be corrected before I...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThey sat us in the bar area and we saw other people get seater after us, eat, pay, and leave before we even got our food. Kind of a frustrating/unpleasant/annoying experience when you pay close to $90 for lunch
Edit: thanks for responding and looking into that. That was not our table thoughā¦we were a party of two with a toddler. Sat in the back cornerā¦got seated probably a little after noon. Had 2 beers, Brussel sprouts, kids chicken fingers, and 2 roast beefs. Total was $78ish plus tip which Iām usually very generous with but I couldnāt bring myself to do after seeing others get seated after us, eat, and leave before us was a little unpleasant. Maybe Iām mistiming things but it was about 40+ min for roast beef...
