I stopped by this café while I was in the area, excited to try it out. I ordered an iced matcha with vanilla, a cappuccino, and a cherry danish. Unfortunately, the matcha was pretty disappointing—it was super watery and milky, with almost no flavor at all. For $8 a drink, I was expecting something much better. The vibe of the place was nice, but after just a couple sips, I couldn’t finish it. I decided to ask if I could switch it for something else. The barista initially tried to charge me for the new drink, which honestly threw me off a bit. I was willing to pay, but then I realized I didn’t want to spend more money on another drink that I wasn’t sure would be any better. So, I ended up just leaving. All in all, it was a disappointing experience, and I don’t think I’ll be coming back anytime soon.

Really chic cafe with organic drinks and food menu! Among all the cafes in Chicago, Aglaia has differentiated itself with the aesthetic forward ambiance, quality ingredients, and friendly service. Feels really nice, cozy, upscale, clean, and modern! Perfect place to have conversations with good friends and enjoy good drinks. For coffee drinkers, the cafe sources quality beans from Intelligentsia and Vanilla Latte is a favorite. Matcha Latte and Chai Latte are great for non coffee drinks. Smoothies are great for days needing the extra. Milk is organic and also offers alternatives like Oat and Almond milk. Also their food menu is well curated with tasty bites, especially the house Quiche and BLT! 📸 BLT Sandwich♥️ Chicken Noodle Soup♥️ Chai Tea♥️ House Quiche ♥️

I LOVE this place! They have THE BEST grilled cheese I have ever tried. Of course, I do add avocado and chicken, which makes the sandwich even better. Today, I went in for my usual, but they unfortunately didn't have chicken, but they recommended bacon. It was still amazing! The guys working there were super friendly, and they even ran after me when they realized they forgot the sauce that comes with the grilled cheese. If that is not amazing customer service, I don't know what is. I am definitely coming back soon. -One happy REPEAT customer. 😊

I used to work a a cafe for years, so I’m particular. This place is my favorite! It’s probably the best I’ve had in the city, and their ingredients are good quality. In a world where profit is tops and corners are cut, alglaia goes the extra mile to use organic ingredients compostable materials, all for a good price.

Also- most cafes I know of- even the small ones- have cheap, mass produced bakery options. I just noticed today that Aglaia has many house made treats- can’t wait to try their soup and homemade nutella toast! Food is well-priced and drinks might seem pricey but WELL worth an extra dollar for this vs. Dunkin down the street (no comment); aglaia uses wholesome ingredients and I love to support the owner who is kind. My favorite is the cortado, it’s like a mini (but strong strong) latte! ...

Edit for more context - I ordered a chagaccino with oat milk. This same drink costs $5.50 at Goddess and the Baker which is the other place I have had it recently. Double the piece for organic is not worth it in my opinion.

Original post- Way too expensive. A 12oz drink cost me over $10 here. Unfortunately not good enough to be priced that way. I didn’t realize until already paying for the drink otherwise I would have just left. The atmosphere of the coffee shop is cute but I just can’t get over the price especially since it isn’t the best coffee I have had before. Also for all their health and organic stuff they don’t have any vegan options and did not let me use my own cup. I was told they could make a drink in their to go cup and I could pour it isn’t my cup if I wanted? Doesn’t seem like the values...

I think my original review somehow got taken down? Which is strange, considering it was honest feedback. I noticed this because I was shocked to glance and the five star rating on my Google maps. People I’ve talked to have also expressed not liking this spot. For the one star, I’ll say that it’s a nice space and the staff is polite. However, the times I’ve been there I tried the smoothies, and they were honestly terrible, which is disappointing given the ridiculously high price tag (relative to similar offerings in the city). The strawberry one was so terrible I decided to just throw it away after about two sips instead of forcing myself to drink it. In general, I wanted to like this spot since it’s on my way to work, but I’ve decided I’d rather go out of my way a bit to the other coffee shops...
