Finally made it in to try after years of saying “we should try that place”. Why didn’t we head in sooner? For starters, the servers at the counter were all super sweet. They answered all of our questions patiently. The interior was super clean and modern feeling. Lots of natural light and very bright. Just lovely. Now, the food. The food was delicious. My friend and I split our food: I got the pulled pork with slaw and jerk mac and cheese. I also got jerk yucca fries on the side. She got the chicken with plantains and Mac and cheese. Both entrees also came with coconut rice and beans and a cornbread fritter. We asked for all 3 sauces (rude girl, jerk BBQ and cilantro lime aioli) plus we got an extra little cup of hot sauce. Literally everything was so good. Yucca fries were nice and crispy on the outside, the chicken and pulled pork were moist, the coconut rice was something I’ll be dreaming about for a while. The sauces were all really good but my favorite was rude girl. Definitely ask for that extra kick of hot sauce, it made the meal! My friend is already asking when we’ll be going again so I guess it’s going to be added to our regular lunch out rotation!

Had lunch for my first time at Jerk. I got a quarter jerk chicken that came with coconut rice & peas, & cornbread fritter automatically (took a bite outta mine before I snapped a photo). I chose the fried plantains and slaw as my 2 sides. I added rude girl sauce. The chicken was great, high quality meat, cooked & seasoned just like I expected from the pictures. The sides were good-- The slaw could have had a touch more acid for my taste but the flavors were distinct and stood on their own which is not easy to do. I liked the lightly sweet fritter- nice touch. I do have to say I didn't love the rude girl sauce. The consistency was thick like refried beans and the flavor was a little too on the Christmas side. You get a large amount of food for the price and it came out very quickly. Staff was nice, but a little rushed, which is kind of the norm these days. It wasn't apparent to me on my first visit but you order at the counter and take out or sit down. Definitely would stop by again.

It was Okay, but far from authentic Jerk. I am not Jamaican, but based on the other Jerk places I have visited in Chicago, I'd rate my experience here as the least. First, I ordered quarter chicken, they said they ran out. Then I said what will be the best dish to order with the Jerk spices and taste for my brother (visiting fron Nigeria, yes Nigeria) and I, the dude said wings. We got it and it barely even had salt in it, the Jerk spices were bitter and dry. Also, a few pieces of my chicken still had BLOOD in it. The customer service wasn't anything to even write bout, yet their payment screen had a tip button, but we had to carry our food ourselves and there were no napkins on the tables either. Imagine eating and looking for napkins from other tables at the same time. Lol even their reply to my previous review was on a defensive. Work on quality and customer service rather than get petty over an honest review. At least I gave y'all 3 stars 😊

I've been a loyal customer of Jerk Modern Jamaican Grill for over 7 years, and I felt it's high time I shared my thoughts on this gem of a restaurant. From the early days of overcoming growing pains to becoming a consistently outstanding eatery, Jerk Modern Jamaican Grill has never failed to impress.

I vividly remember their opening days when they faced challenges with shortages, but those were merely growing pains. Since then, not once have I received a bad order or encountered the dreaded cold food syndrome. Whether through a delivery service or an occasional in-person pick-up for their Beef Patties, my experiences have been nothing short of excellent.

My most recent order through Door Dash was, as always, a delight. The food arrived warm, and the order was spot on. Speaking of Beef Patties, let me tell you, these are the real deal! Forget imitations; Jerk Modern Jamaican Grill boasts the ORIGINAL GOLDEN CRUST. Don't let other places deceive you; this spot has the authentic Golden Crust Beef Patties that will redefine your expectations.

My latest order, I couldn't resist trying the dry-run Jerk wings with a side of Rude Gyal and Cilantro Aioli Sauce. The wings were perfection personified — impeccably rubbed, juicy, and downright delicious. The seasoning was on point, and they didn't skimp on flavor. As a longtime fan of their Jerk offerings, I'm grateful that they consistently deliver on the promise of authentic Jamaican flavors.

And let's not forget the beverages; a bottle of Ting and two cans of Sprite were the perfect companions to my meal, elevating the entire experience.

While I'm already a die-hard fan, I can't help but think that adding oxtail to their menu would be a game-changer. If Jerk Modern Jamaican Grill ever decides to make that addition, consider me a permanent resident!

In conclusion, don't be foolish — give this place a try, and you'll undoubtedly thank me later. Jerk Modern Jamaican Grill has not only stood the test of time but has consistently delivered an exceptional dining experience. Here's to another seven years (and more) of...

Visited “Jerk. Jamaican Barbecue” today and was extremely pleased. I am visiting Chicago for the first time with my family and wanted to dine at different spots. As a Jamaican, I like to sample Jamaican cuisines when I travel. I ordered the jerk leg and thigh with rice and beans, Mac and cheese, plantains, and festivals. It was delicious, the only thing I would do differently is to actually put the chicken on the grill for that authentic smoke flavor. The spices were very good, although it appeared to have been seasoned with a pre-made jerk marinade and not from scratch (like with scallion, pimentos (all spice), onions scotch bonnet pepper, etc. However, I still enjoyed the food tremendously and would dine there again. It would have been great if there were more vegetarian/pescatarian jerk options. They had to double up on the carbs (fries/ Mac and cheese, festival and veggie patties) options like jerk fillet fish of some sort (red snapper a little biased here lol) or jerk salt fish with beans, jerk shrimp salad or so (being creative here) would have been nice. There were tons of chicken options available. The fries were DELICIOUS 😋. Although I can tell this establishment is not owned by Jamaicans I think they are what I would say is a good island vibe. They had real reggae playing the entire time, you can stay awhile just enjoying the music, they had some authentic Jamaican decor, Jamaican liquor, etc. As I mentioned above, I would patronize this establishment again, their customer service deserves an A+, very friendly and nice (which many times you cannot get that level of service from authentic Jamaican restaurants). The place was very clean bathrooms and all. I loved this place, give it a try and you will not be disappointed. If you are a Jamaican looking for hardcore Jamaican food such as oxtails, red snapper, yam and banana, curry goat/chicken, that is not what this place is about (as the name says Jerk. Jamaican Barbecue). They focus on jerk chicken to be exact, which is what I was looking for. ...

I'll just get straight to the point. The food is not worth the price I paid for it, especially through the GrubHub app. The containers are small, one of them was cracked (Jerk mac n cheese) and the food was not the best I thought it should have been. I tried their fries from a friend and ordered from them off his recommendation that they have good jerk but I was wrong. Me nor my 2 co-workers I ordered for could even eat the entire meal that was paid for. Very upset with this and will not order from here again. There are way better Jerk Jamaican places in Chicago that offer $10 plates that are better than this.

Update: So AFTER I wrote this review, and tried a few more times to contact the company via the phone, I was reached out to by Grace, whom I believe is the GM. Her response was immediately empathetic and concerned as to how the order and overall experience was. I was definitely satisfied with how Grace handled the situation. This place is fortunate to have a manager like Grace who knows how to speak WITH people instead of speaking TO them or DOWN to them. Although I won't partake in anything from the restaurant again, I'm happy with the final outcome to the situation. Thank you Grace for being...
