This one star review is for the older man who runs the Open Mic on Thursdays. Last night I went to see a dear friend perform there for the first time - I happened to by the side of the bar right in front of where this person was stationed. The entire time she and her friend played, he made increasingly rude comments - disparaging everything from their song selection to how they were playing and frequently yelling that they should hurry up. In short, he was a complete jerk. It broke my heart and ruined my night to be honest and the only saving grace was that my friend and her partner were doing such a great job of being brave and performing their music that they couldn't hear this clearly miserable human being. Here's my question - if that's how you feel about budding musicians and their valient attepts at playing before a crowd of strangers, why the hell run an Open Mic. I won't be back to Gallery Cabaret (a venue I otherwise like) as long...
Read moreMy band plays there frequently and it is hands down my favorite music venue in Chicago. Garret is friendly, supportive and really cares about the bands he books. Whether you're an up and coming act or an established one who can pack the house, he treats you with the same level of respect and attentiveness. He's passionate about music and it shows. The rest of the staff is just as professional and friendly as the boss. Even the customers are enthusiastic and supportive. The atmosphere is one of the most positive and welcoming of any venue anywhere. and the icing on the cake is that they never charge a cover. The sound system is incredible, much better than one might expect for a room this size. They even provide a house drum kit and a variety of guitars and amps, plus a full grand piano, all of which are maintained wonderfully. I can't recommend this place enough, whether you're in a band or just love...
Read moreWent for the show. We knew one of the musical performers the night we went. I don’t think GC serves food. We just drank. There is a little stage in back with some table seating. The bar is long and old. Great to see these old bars still in operation. This is the type of place local politicians would drink and talk with patrons about chicago politics. It’s nestled away in a local neighborhood. Parking could be tough but there was plenty available the night we were there. This would be a fun place to bring friends to sit, drink and listen to music or a show if someone is playing live. I would say to check their website to see if they have...
