SGD DUBU SO GONG DONG TOFU & KOREAN BBQ — Restaurant in West Chicago Township

Keep in mind this is not a whole restaurant, but merely a vendor within the HMart Asian store.

I've gone to this store a few times just to grab dinner at SGD, experiencing both sit down and to-go.

I'd say the wait times after ordering are about 5-10 minutes. Nowhere close to full-size restaurant wait times.

So far, I've ordered both the bento box with Korean beef, and the hot stone plate bibimbap. Both dishes are amazing, but also surprisingly filling. I've found the portions of food to be the perfect amount to fill me up without ordering extra sides.

Make sure you specify whether you want your order "here" or to to-go. Sometimes you're asked, other times you have to speak up. I wanted mine to-go the other day and forgot to mention it, but the nice man at the register quickly helped fix that before our food was ready.

The atmosphere gets 3 stars because well....it's in a store. No prettier than your average mall food court. At the end of the day, it's more about the food anyway.

Overall brilliant. Most noteworthy is the outstanding customer care. I’ve ordered from SGD as delivery and the packaging is outstanding. It’s not in the cylinder cheap tupperware that you need to pour out the soup from and feel like you’re having warmed up space food. No, it comes in a massive bowl, perfect for opening up and feeling like you’re at a restaurant. The side dishes are great too, something many Korean restaurants fall off on. A common saying in Korea is that you can tell how good a restaurant is by the kimchi they serve. SGD serves great kimchi.

The soondubu stew itself is great. Best I’ve had in Chicago hands down. The clams? Bountiful. I’m used to getting three to four TOTAL. SGD gives at least twice...

Wish I could give zero stars. The guy was extremely rude/ dismissive of me. Ignored me, wouldn’t look me in the eyes and didn’t ask me basic questions like are you eating here or doing takeout. Immediately after me was a Korean couple and his entire persona switched up I was shocked it was the same person I interacted with. What really compelled to write is review is how SICK I’ve been since eating here. I’m currently on day two of unbearable stomach pains and not being able to hold anything down and it can’t help but make me suspicious that the racism didn’t stop...
