Always Original Bakery — Restaurant in West Columbia

Let me share the good experience first. My son and I went here about a month ago. The service was outstanding! Even though they were about to close, the owners graciously waited on us, allowing us time to carefully select what we wanted, without feeling rushed. They also provided helpful information on what was available. It was a pleasant encounter all around. And we thoroughly enjoyed our goodies!

My most recent experience here has left a bad taste in my mouth (no pun intended). We were greeted by a lady behind the counter, who, upon entering, firmly requested we don masks. Her demeanor was very off putting. I did explain that I was fully vaccinated. Still, she said masks were required. I don't mind wearing a mask in situations with very close contact for extended periods of time, and physical distancing is not possible. However, this was not the case. Went in this past Friday (12/9/22) to try and order a birthday cake. I chose one from the ones pictured on Facebook. I asked about having it ready by this coming Friday (12/16/22) and was told they were "booked up and wouldn't have time to make a cake". I thought a week in advance would be enough time to order. They didn't even look at the cake I had chosen which was fairly simple.

I cannot help I have a December birthday. The whole situation was disheartening and disappointing. I was really hoping to get a great cake and support a local business all in one go. Guess I'll end up at a chain grocery store yet again this year. :(

10/10 I came across a post from the bakery somewhere on Facebook. I was out of ideas for Valentine's gifts. Then I decided to check them out. Usually they're closed on Mondays but open for special hours today. When walking in my two very excited children beat me to the door and honestly I walked in with out looking. It was when I walked out that I noticed their mask request sign, so to the owner I do apologize for not respecting that. I would have complied had I noticed, lesson learned for me. Now to the important things, the strawberry's are AMAZING. And the banana nut bread is out of this world. My son got the Emoji brownie and loved it. Thank you for still helping me + my gremlins today and accepting us regardless.
