Not only having worked at Fiesta but at various semi-fast food model restaurants like it, Id have to say the Fiesta really gives you the most bang for your buck. All the food that needs cooking, beans, rice, the sauces, the meats, all of it is prepared in the store, fresh. Not frozen, not microwaved. Fresh. All the produce is fresh and chopped up and mixed down into the pico, the salsa, the guacamole, fresh, in the store from scratch. The only things prepackaged is the sour cream and canned jalapenos.
Now I'd imagine that to serve such fresh food the food cost overhead can get pretty high so in order to run a profitable business, (And its is run by the nicest family of chinese americans I have ever met, who recently began their fledgling family) you must keep strict control over portions of food served.
Not only that but the staff deals with quite the diverse student body at Purdue, who can also be quite rude. You get what you pay for Drupalad, and if you want extra, you pay extra. Sometimes people have bad days and pushy entitled spoiled students from abroad who dont understand woman are equal in this society tend to piss some women off. Also people aren't paid to enjoy their jobs, they're paid to provide you service. So the next time your server asks you with a smile how you'd like your burrito prepared, ask for extra if your willing to pay extra, but if not don't go whining to the internet to paint a patently false atmosphere in an awesome and fun restaurant because you think prudent business practice at your detriment is stinginess.
Literally people will say its almost too much food. Maybe you're...
Read moreYou may notice that most of the ratings for Fiesta are 4 stars or above, so let me explain my low rating.
I previously really liked Fiesta, but recently it's been horrible. They undercook their cheese quesdillas so instead of a melty cheese center its very chalky and does not have a good texture. They also undercook their rice, which is a shame as this is the base to their most popular menu item, the burrito.
Second, the service is bad. The workers are very rude and it is so apparent they don't care. They've never been personable. If you ask for sides to your quesdilla, such as salsa or lettuce, they will give you the tiniest possible scoop. Even if you ask them for extra they are so conservative.
The last thing that happened that ticked me off was when I was at the checkout. I saw that they had little punchcard discount cards you can have, where after the 10th punch you get a free meal. I asked the cashier for one and she just hands me it. I had to ask her to punch a hole in it, which is ridiculous because obviously if I ask you to have a punch card after I just bought food you should automatically know I want you to punch it. Complete and total common sense but the workers here are just so stingy. This interaction left a bad taste in my mouth along with the taste of the chalky undercooked quesdilla I have had enough of Fiesta.
You can get much better Mexican food all around campus, such as Chipotle or Qudoba that there is no reason to go to this...
Read moreFiesta Mexican grill was my first true love. My senior year I went here nearly every day around 2pm for the only meal I would need each day. There are some things you might forget after leaving college; classroom acquaintances, what you did at cactus, the co-op girl that reminded you God is always watching 🤠. Some things however, stick with you for the rest of your life. Though it has been 3 years since my time at Purdue, I still long for these burritos like it was yesterday. I will never forget the smell of tortillas that breezes over you on entrance. The joy of watching your tortilla slide out onto the rotating hot plate. The horror of looking on as you burrito exits the toaster tunnel, wondering if it will be taken before certain a swift fall to the floor.
There are few things in life that are worth holding on to. If you're lucky some of them will let you into their life, and you will let them into yours. Fiesta waits patiently with open arms, like the boys outside home depot. It is up to you to...
