Vienna Espresso Bar and Bakery is undoubtedly the best coffee shop experience in the Purdue area. I have found myself returning consistently for the unbeatable combination of reasonable pricing, a studious yet welcoming atmosphere, and a staff that often reminds me why I refer to Vienna as my second home. Vienna's perfect location near campus and Chauncey Hill makes it the perfect stop for a caffeine boost, a study session, or a casual meetup with friends.
The coffee is consistently excellent, with a vast menu that caters to whatever mood I’m in that day. Their food menu is just as impressive, featuring fresh, unique sandwich options that accommodate a variety of dietary needs. I’m particularly a fan of their smoothies and their hummus and pita—made from a special recipe by the owner, and it never disappoints.
However, I find that what genuinely sets Vienna apart from any other coffee shop is the atmosphere. It is cozy and always buzzing with the energy of students working toward their futures, alongside regulars who have turned this café into their second home (like me). There’s a deep sense of community here—so much so that I’ve seen patrons voluntarily clean up, take out the trash, and help others, simply because they care. If you’ve ever heard of the concept of a “Third Place,” Vienna embodies it perfectly.
You'll always find excellent service, even during the busiest rushes (like Sunday mornings when the church crowd packs the place). The baristas take genuine pride in their work, and if you’re a regular, you’ll quickly find yourself on a first-name basis with them. I’ve had the privilege of watching baristas start here, graduate from Purdue, and move on to their next chapter, and it’s been a joy getting to know them.
Pricing? More than fair—especially considering the quality you get. It easily competes with any other coffee shop in the area, and the value makes it a no-brainer.
If it’s your first time visiting, I would recommend the John Coltrane pita sandwich for a unique flavor experience, or the John Purdue Club for a classic experience. And when it comes to coffee—there is no wrong choice.

Read moreGot coffee or food here almost every day for more than 6 moths, now i've boycotted the place! The biggest points have already been mentioned: the prices are less than greyhouse, the regulars are more chill than greyhouse, the menu has a lot of great vegetarian and vegan options, the employees are chainsmokers, there is usually only one barista working so usually a long wait to get anything other than a drip coffee, the loyalty program is great. The main issue I have with this place is the new barista who refuses to greet me when I walk in. I was the first one in the shop and waited for him for several minutes without acknowledging me to put out all the cookies and snack bars while I waited for him to ask me what I wanted - a drip coffee. The last time I was in there I waited 5 minutes at the counter for him to finish cleaning stuff by the coffee maker. Then when he greeted me with "what do you want..." i was like "can you make me a breakfast sandwich?" he was like "can you wait until 12 when i get off?" i just said nothing and walked out.
