Several times that I've gone to Egyptian or ordered by phone, I've had issues with service. Once I called to get the price on the butter chicken masala and when I told him I actually didn't want to to order he cursed at me and told me to never order from the Egyptian again. I didn't take it personally though and still came by every once in a while because the atmosphere is nice and the food is pretty good... especially the wings. They've always been hot and well sauced whenever I've come. I came to the Egyptian this past Saturday and barley had service. My partner and I ordered our drinks and food all at the same time. A girl who was not our waitress came with our wings that literally had a drizzle of buffalo sauce. It was as if I had ordered plain wings, it was that bad. I asked her for a side of buffalo sauce. It was obvious that she was irritated and said "sure" but never came back to our table. After about 10min, I went up and got my own sauce. Up until the end she never came back. The original waiter witnessed me getting my own sauce and asked what happened, I told him but he too never came to our table to check on us ever. We finally see him again at end when he handed our check. He then adds that he gave us a 15% discount off the wings. Yeah whatever dude. No tip. I'm not going back to the Egyptian. Whats the point? Your service as well as your food (now) sucks! They feel they can treat costumers any kind of way just because they're in a college town. Had it been downtown Indy or Broad Ripple, I'm sure my experience wouldn't have...
Read moreIn some way I truly wish this wasn't on campus. I feel the offerings are a resplendent hidden treasure chest of love. I have tried several dishes delivered through Door Dash. I have not been disappointed. If you wish to truly experience the Egyptian love of a grandmother, you'll find it here. I myself grew up in an Italian home and walking into my mother's or grandmother's pantry was divine. I close my eyes today and imagine being there and when I eat this glorious food I find those fantastic ladies there. Please don't hesitate to dine in or order out from here. It is most definitely Lafayette and West Lafayette's hidden diamond. They've been here a great while and are waiting to serve you a diners dream of cuisine. Just a simple serving of their small salad will make you smile. I close my eyes and dream of my grandmother, whom I miss tremendously. From hummus to shawarma, to butter masala, to kofta, or simply exquisite somosas, there's love in every - single - bite. Their kababs are magnificent! Don't hesitate! Give them a call for pick up or delivery! Give me...
Read moreIn a nutshell, hookah: excellent, food: meh.
They have a good array of tobacco selections for their hookahs, and they're very knowledgeable about it, and I enjoyed it.
Their food on their other hand..................whole other story. Firstly, the food is NOT authentic Middle Eastern, very Westernized. In addition, do not bother with their lamb dishes, they're overcooked and chewy.
Their "authentic shawarmas"? Neither authentic or a shawarma, although they are decent-tasting and not horrible, still, the ingredients are NOT shawarma ingredients at all (like really.........lettuce? pickles?).
Their food simply seems more of "convenience food" to complement hookah time, I highly doubt the owners are Middle Eastern.
Overall though, I still recommend this place. If you want authentic Middle Eastern, go to Blue Nile...
