Honestly, my expectations for this place weren't all that high initially - especially since I was never a ‘die hard fan’ of Southern food. (Yes, I’m a Louisiana native, and no, southern/cajun food is NOT my favorite kind of food by any means.) That only added to the surprise I got when I came to Trapp’s for the first time tonight. I arrived with three others for dinner around 5:20, and it wasn’t too busy (I figured it would be since it was Saturday). People started pouring in though - we'd Just beaten the dinner rush.
Our appetizer came out pretty quickly, and it was DELICIOUS. (We ordered the “Crawfish Queso.”) Two or three of the chips weren’t fully cooked, but they were still safe to eat and such. They were a little too seasoned (spicy) for my grandmother, but my brother and I really liked them. (I ate like 80% of them by myself - no joke.)
The entrees took a little bit longer to come out, but the wait time wasn’t unbearable. I can’t really speak to how everyone else’s food was, but only one of us didn’t really care for our entree. My brother said that he, personally, wouldn’t order “Mrs. D’s Corn and Shrimp Bisque” a second time - although he did manage to eat most of it tonight. My dad ordered the “Smothered Catfish” and ate every bite of it. He also commented that our grandfather would’ve liked it too if he’d been able to go with us. My grandmother ordered the “Creole House Salad” (with added Shrimp), and even THAT took us by surprise. She carried on about how they gave you two boiled eggs (served in halves of course) instead of just one like most other places give you, and the amount of shrimp added to the salad was a great value for just $3 more. The entree I chose was absolutely perfect for me (I ordered the “Seafood Nacho Spud”). My only regret is that I couldn’t eat all of it - it was absolutely delicious.
The service was about what you’d expect - not magnificent, but certainly not bad. We were seated inside the building (in the main area) so the noise did get worse as people walked in, and there was certainly a “fish in a barrel” feeling as the servers navigated through the dining rooms, but that sort of thing can’t really be helped when you’re operating at full capacity like they were tonight.
The prices were really the main reason for this being a 5-star rating over a 4-star rating. The serving sizes were VERY generous, and the prices were Extremely fair. (We ordered one appetizer and four entrees, and our total came out to be right around $60.) It might be worth mentioning though that we all ordered water as our beverages.
If I REALLY wanted to be a stickler and give this place 4 stars instead of 5, then my reasons for a 4-star rating would’ve been these: The parking lot is atrocious (although I heard that Trapp’s doesn’t Own it; therefore, they can’t actually Fix it so it's not really their fault..), Drinks were served in cheap styrofoam cups instead of regular plastic cups or glasses, and Napkins aren’t available at the tables - you have to ask for them as...
Read moreFood was good, sweet tea was good hard to find good sweet tea, right strength. Just wish they had a bigger area when you had a big group so it would be easier for the waitress to wait on you.. I had never been there so I got the fried shrimp with salad and roasted corn. All the items I had was good I tried some of the queso dip with the homemade potatoes chips or whatever they call them that was good.. my cousin's husband ordered some crawfish etouffee a cup and wished he had ordered a bowl said it was very good I didn't try it. Someone said they ordered the Crawfish and they were good I didn't try that they were way at the other end of the table. Others said they're mixed vegetables and asparagus were good except they did not cut the ends off of asparagus so they were hard but the other one was good the tops I did not cut them right .That's why a group a big group should be put in a u shape or a circle so everyone can speak to each other and it's also easier for the waitress to wait on them especially if it was a u shape. We did have to ask the waitress to bring us tea and tartar sauce and things like that and that should been a given for them to do especially in this area where a lot of people eat tartar sauce other than the cocktail with their shrimp and refills they should keep up with without having to ask. Also a gratuity was added to the ticket for a couple of family members that showed up to the group which were already paid for in advance because it was a tour but for the guests they added gratuity and I was under the impression that it was not legal in the state of Louisiana to add gratuity even to a big group? The atmosphere was fine as far as I was concerned it was crowded and noisy as to be expected when you have a lot of people in there, but all seem to be pleased...
Read moreDuring my visit to this restaurant, my family and I were not treated properly. When we arrived with a group of 7, one being a toddler, we were told that there would be a 25 minute waiting time. We were okay with the wait time and sat patiently in the waiting area to be seated. As we waited, others that came in after us were seated in the same area that we requested to be seated. The 25 minutes pasted and no one came to update us on the status of the us being seated. We proceeded to ask the hostess for an update, she proceeds to tell us that it would be another 20 minutes before we could be seated while she continued to seat a party of 6 that came after us. We had been seating there long enough that several employees, that were not hostess or waitress/waiters noticed that we had not been seated and said that this happens often, they will have us sitting there and seat others before they seat our group, which was a group of African Americans. We decided to leave the location, and surprisingly, they were okay with it. When I told the manager standing outside that we were never seated and another worker also informed the manager that we were not seated , nothing was done. We were a group of African Americans that were looked over and not seated or welcomed at this location. Other parties and groups, of the opposite race, that came in after us were seated very quickly and no one made any accommodations for us or...
