I’m not one to take the time to review a restaurant experience unless it was as bad as what I just experienced. I took my daughters to your Morgantown location. We came to celebrate my daughter’s 23rd birthday. I quietly told the hostess it was her birthday while being seated. The staff did nothing to accommodate a birthday, which was disappointing, considering the amount of money we spent here. Which brings me to my next complaint. Money isn’t a problem for me to spend, considering the occasion, but the king crab legs were 70$ market price. As this was my fault for not asking, some customers may be embarrassed to ask in front of others, I feel this is the responsibility of the server to identify the ‘“market price” upon ordering just to clarify since there is no indicated price. The server was extremely inattentive and we felt as if we were bothering her. The appetizer we ordered presented nothing like the way it’s displayed on the menu. The crab dip was good, but the chips were burnt and thrown on the plate. I also specifically told the server I could not eat potatoes or corn and she offered the mixed vegetables, which did not come out with the meal AND the potatoes and corn, that I told her I did not want. The salads were brought WITH the meal instead of prior to our meals. If you’re gonna charge the price of an upscale restaurant, I expect an experience that reflects that. The restaurant was out of White Claw, and Truly’s, which I enjoy at dinner and apple juice for my little one. Once the vegetables FINALLY came out, I was finished with my meal. They were not even done the entire way. The server was not prompt at all and after watching her drop a plate on the floor and breaking it, I hear her scream from the kitchen “oh my god, I just dropped a plate, I’m gonna kill myself” (so unprofessional). I could name a few other disappointing things about this experience but I think I’ve said enough. Needless to say, I will not be returning to this location, and I will be leaving a review on my personal FB page. I do like to take my family to eat often and people know this about me. Always asking me where I felt is a good place to eat. I’ll never recommend The Crab Shack. That’s for sure. It would behoove you to step of your game and provide service and food to match your...
Read moreIf you're from the coast and looking for the traditional seafood and crab house experience, you'll be disappointed. This is more of a trendy college take on a crab shack than anything. The atmosphere, the tables, the decor are all on point and the service was friendly and prompt. The problem is in the menu.
We were there for lunch and were not in the mood for a massive meal so we chose more mid-day menu items. My jambalaya was not in fact, jambalaya. Cheap, flavorless sausage, yellow rice and chicken was mixed with... Italian sauce? Disgusting and unnecessary. No semblance of a cajun spice pallette seen anywhere in this dish.
My wife ordered the crab cake sandwich and stated that it was okay. Hand cut french fries accompanied it but similar to my dish, lacked flavor and seemed a little underdone.
I added a Blood Mary to my meal assuming it was going to compliment the jambalaya. The drink was well thought out with a celery, green olive, and shrimp adornment and what was likely old bay decorating the rim. Unfortunately the drink itself tasted mostly like water. Points for trying.
The one redeeming item was the crab dip. The pita chips accompanying these were better than your usual fair and the crab dip was decent. They should capitalize on this dip by turning it into a dish with nachos or fries and adding shrimp and remoulade.
The bill for a crab cake sandwich with fries, some sort of Italian jambalaya, a crab dip appetizer, and my drink (we had waters) was $52 before tip. We left disappointed and overcharged. If you're in the mood for seafood, go ahead and pass this one by, even if you end up at a Red...
Read moreI took family there because they wanted blue crab. When we got there we were told it would be a half hour wait if we wanted to sit inside but we could be seated outside immediately. We chose to sit outside. The wait to get drinks took to long; about 15 minutes. About the time they came the sun was shining directly where we were sitting so I moved to the side of the table. When the food finally came and it took a long time, the waitress sits the food down, explains that they made mine incorrectly and they had to remake it. She started to walk away and we had to stop her as she did not leave any crackers for the blue crabs. When my food finally came everyone else was almost done with theirs. Mine was suppose to come with a side dish of beans and rice. It was only rice. No apologies given. We had to ask twice for to go containers. The right side of my face got sunburned. If I was going to sit people outside, I would provide them with shade or at least tell the clients they will be in the direct sun. The food was good but slightly overpriced. But it is Morgantown. The service was terrible. Bottom line, I’ll spend my money elsewhere; party of four $186 including 20% tip. I usually tip...
