I was pleasantly surprised and grateful that I had a great experience at this Crackel Barrel! My family and I were a bit worried about coming to this location because of the negative reviews. However, I'm happy to report that this was not my experience at all.
We went on a holiday weekend and the wait to be seated was 15-20 minutes. I've been to another Crackel Barrel (in KY) and the wait was about the same, and you can easily kill this time in the store. The restaurant itself was crowded but not uncomfortably loud or tight, so we could easily sit and have a conversation.
Once we (group of 3) were seated, our waitress Jennifer tended to us right away. She was very friendly, though she seemed a bit tired (I'm assuming she was maybe at the end of her shift). Even though she was a bit forgetful, she made it up to us by quickly getting whatever she forgot and made it a point to apologize profusely each time. She also checked in with us often, which I appreciated. All of the staff members we spoke with were friendly, so I'm confused as to why people were saying the staff was rude. The hostess mentioned that they were understaffed, so maybe that affected some people's experiences, but it didn't affect mine.
The food itself was delicious! We did not have to wait long for it, so that was a double treat! The biscuits were warm and beignets were sweet with a soft, fluffy texture. I ordered the chicken and French toast, and both were great. The chicken was so crispy and well-seasoned throughout that it is genuinely some of the best fried chicken that I've had in a while. The French toast, while a bit strange looking, was also pretty good, and I appreciate the fact that it was not too sweet. My only complaint is that I wish the portions were a tad bigger but I think they make okay enough sense for the price. The presentation could have also been a bit prettier. My Mom liked the catfish and my brother like the fried chicken and steak. My brother also said the Macaroni and cheese was a bit watery and the dumplings were lackluster (I can attest to that, the dumping...did not look like dumpings). Lastly, we sampled the pancakes and wow -- I think Crackel Barrel has even IHOP beat here! The flavor is sooo delicious and the texture is so perfectly fluffy and buttery.
Overall, I would definitely come back to this Crackel Barrel and hope I continue to have good experiences! I felt the need to give a more in-dept review since so many of the other ones here are so scathing! If true, hopefully those are just...
Read moreI had a very unsafe experience here. I told my server I have severe pork and beef allergy and asked her if what I wanted to order was free of those allergens. She assured me it was and even went back to ask what kind of oil they use. (Some restaurants are using beef tallow for oil so I appreciated this) After my meal came out I had two bites of it and she casually strolled over to the table to tell my not to eat the gravy because it has sausage in it. There is nowhere on the menu to disclose that and I thought I was safe because she reassured me it was. I scrambled to find benadryl, asked if they had any in a first aid kit since I couldn't find any in my purse or car. They did not carry it and was later informed they wouldnt of been able to dispense of it anyways... A nice guest over heard me and provided me with 2. After that I immediately asked for the check since the medicine was going to make me drowsy and to be honest I couldn't stand being in there anymore. I was scared. the waitress did ask me if I needed an ambulance which I had declined. I get the check, the meal was still on there. The meal that put me into a allergic reaction. The meal that I had only taken two bites of. I asked for it to be taken off. Not once did a manager come over to see if I was ok. I had to take off work that night due to the drowsiness of the medicine and the soreness of my throat from it swelling a little bit. My sister had to go out of her way to drive me home so I was safe on the road. Mind you - we were celebrating her engagement. I called the following day (9/31) and asked to speak to a manager. The first time around they said they would call me back in an hour. They didn't. I called again almost 2 hours later and was finally able to speak to them. Doug the manager listened but truly it didnt feel sincere. HE LAUGHED A FEW TIMES. When I called him out he told me he does know that it a serious situation.... it didn't feel like it. All he told me was the waitress was going to be written up. I asked him to have a meeting with his staff and please explain the seriousness of allergy's. I do plan on contacting corporate as well... just a really terrible experience all around when the lunch was supposed to be filled with...
Read moreI would love to rank this place higher because I genuinely love the food and the atmosphere, but lately service has been so lackluster that I just can't. Most recently I dined on a Tuesday night with my husband, parents, and 2 children. The place was not busy at all. We were greeted promptly and got our drinks fairly quickly. After that, however, problems started to arise. First was the list of menu items that were unavailable, including the campfire specials. After a quick skim of the menu, I changed my plan and found something else. Then the wait started. Endless waiting. No bread, no side salad for my dad, no drink refills. Thankfully the kids were easily entertained because the adults were bored and frustrated. The bread basket finally arrived with the salad, but no drinks were refilled. At this point, all 4 adults had empty glasses. Someone else brought out our food and didn't even know what the dishes were. Thankfully our waitress came and sorted it out for her. At this point, we found out that a "side of bacon" for $3.99 was 3 small strips and that my husband's meal had been changed for him when it turned out there were even more menu items unavailable. There was no discussion about this, no options presented, just an extra piece of meatloaf piled on top instead of the side of chicken and dumplings he had ordered. AGAIN the waitress left without refilling our drinks, but luckily at least this time someone else was walking around to help us out. Food of course was delicious, but when the bill arrived, we noticed a discrepancy between what my dad ordered (the same thing he gets every time) and what he was charged for. When it was questioned, the manager came over and began ARGUING with us, basically putting the blame on us for not recognizing that the meal was slightly different (3 grilled chicken strips instead of a chicken breast). By that point, for all we knew they were out of chicken breasts too! Overall, we were left annoyed and disappointed that our nice family night out was anything but fun and enjoyable. We may need to rethink in the future what Cracker Barrel we go to, because this...
