During my drive from Pinehurst, NC I was getting tired and remember there was a Courtyard at Exit 5 off the Jersey Turnpike. Being a very Ioyal Marriott rewards member I chose to go online and reserve a room figuring the timing would be right. as I was a couple of hours away. I had stayed at the Hampton Inn nearby several years ago before the Courtyard was built. I should have stayed with Hampton Inn. Upon arrival around 10:00 pm, I had to wait for reception at front desk, probably five minutes, but seemed a lot longer after my long drive. When I did receive attention it was very curt, not warm or sincere. When I asked if there was a spot to eat nearby since their bistro was closing at 10, I was told to check the board in the lobby. Ok a little local knowledge might have helped but I checked the board. Got to my room, dumped my stuff, ran out to grab a burger to bring back to the room. When I got back, I turned on the tv which didn't work. I called the front desk and was told the hotel had call for tech service but they didn't come. When I spoke to a lady in the elevator she said her tv worked fine and she was just across the hall. This follows that when I discovered I had two queens instead of a king that nothing could be done. Several small things just combined to make it a completely horrible experience. The undercurrent and attitude of the desk reception made matters worse in that everything felt like a battle. I have complained to Marriott rewards and I did hear from Samantha the general manager. She informed me she thoroughly investigated the incident and did apologize but seemed to have a excuse for everything. I may be somewhat sensitive because of the underlying vibe at reception followed by so many problems. I asked for my money back and checked out at 10:30. I drove three more hours through NYC and arrived at a Holiday Inn Express in Connecticut at 1 am where I was greeted warmly and had a very good experience. Since being a rewards member I have probably booked well over 1000 nights at Marriott properties and have accumulated over 2 million points. In all that time I have never complained to a general manager or made a formal complaint to Marriott. I was left with such a total frustration and disappointment Wednesday evening at this particular Courtyard, I had to take the time to air...
Read moreWhat did I like about this hotel? Not a lot ...the price at discounted rate, that's about it. Front desk clerk was unfriendly right off the bat. How much do we need to pay for a smile and a friendly disposition? ...I called down to the desk because the pullout sofa bad no blankets and the employee cut me off as I told her this with a curt "bottom drawer"l." When I explained to her the bottom drawer had a ripped sheet and that was it. She replied, "Well you can come down and get some blankets." Strike 1: Um, do I work here? You gonna tip me for getting my own blankets? You know, the ones that should be in the room when I arrive? Next, when we searched online for a Marriott in this area we checked the option that we wanted "complimentary breakfast." Upon arrival the same unfriendly clerk told us "oh it's not complimentary." Strike 2 Went down to their "market" because unlike other awesome Marriotts that I've been to this one had neither a microwave in the room nor a complimentary bag of popcorn. My kids, all hungry after swimming in the "pool", wanted a late snack. So we went to said market and a bag of flipping microwave popcorn was about $3.50. OUTRAGEOUS! Strike 3. The rooms were ok. TV channels leave much to be desired, no kids channels. So yeah not a great experience and glad we only have to endure one night, tonight. Tomorrow we stay at another Marriott ...hopefully it's better then this one. Wouldn't recommend the courtyard in Burlington NJ. My biggest problem is unfriendly employees. People, like us, are paying their earned money ...whether vacay or business. In our case a mini break, which we rarely have the opportunity to take. It sticks in my crawl when a company hires to be "the face of their hotel" a person with a sour puss and...
Read moreHorrible Unsafe Experience. Please note this review is after several attempts to get an update from the hotel via calls, and emails to specific individuals. ||My friend at 1AM were awakened by a key opening our hotel room door. The panic set in as there was no knock or announcement. We hopped up from the bed and immediately began to scream “GET OUT”. Three men, with suitcases had entered our room. We screamed and began to walk towards them motioning them to get out. They backed out and we locked the door again. Physically shaking, horrified, embarrassed, etc I called the front desk to which I said three men have entered our room. The clerk says what room, we tell her and she says hold. She then returned saying, oh I’m sorry I gave them your room. I thought it was vacant. HOW. When we arrived we purchased snacks from the lobby, we wrote in a book our room number, we also had her charge the snacks to the room about 2 hours earlier. My thought was.. is this a setup, did she send them ? She offered no other words, she spoke as if it were a simple room service mixup at 1pm. Unsure whether it was safer to leave or stay we opted to stay as the men were still in the hall discussing their next move. She then calls our room to say, “hey can you just send the men downstairs” WHAT ?! ||I have NEVER had this happen. We passed on several brands in the area to stay at the Marriott, Courtyard and this was a terrible experience. That morning at check out we immediately asked to speak to a manager… no one available. We gave a play by play on the evening and the associates enjoyed the drama yet we’re able to offer nothing further. ||To this day !!! We have not yet received a reply, call, or anything in response to...
