Wessie’s Den — Restaurant in Westbrook

Came for the pinball and NA beer, but left disappointed.

I'm only giving stars for pinball options and NA beer option (KIT from Portland). The rest of the experience will keep me from another visit.

Starting off the evening with a $6 drink, that has no alcohol in it, was a bit steep. It's important to note it's cash only. Game play is on quarters, but be sure to bring either 1s or 5s. Coin machine doesn't accept other bills.

I originally found out about this place from a fb post indicating hours were until 10pm. The game options are great and all machines, for the most part, are in great working order.

Read on for my bad experience. At 9pm I was in the middle of a game when the bar tender poked his head in to offer last call to which we declined an additional drink. I guess we got the up front and personal offer, being the only patrons in the place. Moments later, the entire bank of machines powered down. We looked at the bar where the bartender said "oops", shrugged, and flipped the switch back on. The other bartender smiled, shrugged, then started shutting off the window signs. I guess that was our que that the place was closing. Although just dumping $2 for 4 games on the machine, we lost two credits due to the "oops" moment, and forfeited the additional two for not feeling welcome.

If a place is closing, there are better ways to tell your customers. If your drink prices are that high, there should be something worth paying that much for it. There are a number of other barcade options around and I have no desire to come back here.

It was pretty damn cute. Definitely worth the stop if you are a little bit of a game nerd. I kidnapped my husband who is definitely the type lol And brought him here as a surprise for his birthday. It definitely entertained and made him happy. This is not a bells and whistles Sort of joint, but a true fan place. It was clean and nice and homey. Very relaxed.

Getting much of a reaction out of hubby is not the most common thing, and for him to have been incredibly happy about his surprise means a lot. The bartender miss Liv Was a sweetheart. I had called a few hours before we went to see if they have coin machines for the games And she was very helpful (they do) And when we arrived She remembered who I was, and again provided even more help and was very sweet.

PS, extra 10 points for your cribbage tournament people and the vibes they rang out, even though I never spoke to anyone, just exchanged some smiles, and some excuse mes passing by…but they were all really happy and having a good time …Just added to the atmosphere.

Pps- if you are a nerd, also, stick your head into the bathrooms and take a look lol it’s not a trick...

Well that was weird... I was expecting a bar with some arcade games. I arrived near 8:00pm on a Thursday. There was karaoke going on, kids were running around on scooters, about a dozen pinball machines and a dozen other arcade games (mostly NES and Sega), a crane machine, a Foosball table, and a change machine in there; yes, the machines operate on quarters. I didn't hate the visit, but I wasn't convinced that it was a place I wanted to visit again based off my first impression. Not having A/C in the summer months is a massive "no thanks," for me. It was 86 degrees outside at 8pm, and it was cooler outside than in the bar. The service seemed like it was going to be great when I first got there, but after the first drink I waited around for close to 20 min, just to get a second drink.
