Family Room Coffee & Bake Shop — Restaurant in Westerville

Unfortunately not a huge fan of the coffee & prices at the moment - bitter, weak, and acidic - but I wanted to offer some constructive criticism as I am local to Westerville and want this place to thrive and love having a coffee shop so close. This place has potential and has a very cute atmosphere, space, and boardgames, and staff is super nice, but the coffee is an oof at the moment.

I have had their plain cold brew and plain hot coffee a few different times, and unfortunately both have been extremely bitter and acidic, so that makes more premium prices harder to swallow. I drink way too much coffee pretty much all day everyday and go to a lot of different shops around Columbus but I haven’t been able to finish my drinks from here. If I had to guess it is being brewed too hot and the oils on the beans are being burned, or maybe try different roasts.

Came back to give this place another shot, and there’s no excuse. Ordered a plain cold brew with a little bit of cream. Watched them pour the cup only 1/3 way with coldbrew, then whip cream, ice, and mix with a spoon that I paid $6 dollars for? Legitimately felt like a scam to pay that much for so little coffee, and who uses mixed up whip cream as a creamer? Tasted like whip cream water with a coffe flavor. Just tried this place for the first time today after loving the concept for the place (a kid friendly coffee shop!!!) and the execution of the idea was as wonderful as I had hoped. The coffees we got were all excellent as were the baked goods. They had a whole corner with kids toys/games/coloring stuff/puzzles/books and my two boys loved it. They got to play while I got to relax and enjoy my coffee. They also have many games for adults and the space is set up with a great vibe. It's also large enough that folks without kids wouldn't be bothered by the kid activities if they were wanting to study or work. I love that you can just order in their app and not wait in line. My friend and I met here with our toddlers and loved it! The family room area is spacious and offers a variety of seating. We went on the morning of MLK day and it was pretty full. Somehow it didn’t feel loud or overwhelming at all and we were still able to carry a conversation in the kids corner. I love that the Family Room caters to families in all different stages of life. Even down to the bathroom which has a changing table and a little potty for kiddos! As a young mom who plans to live in this area and have a few more kids, my friends and I will be frequent visitors here for sure! I do agree with what others have said about the prices.
