Update: I went to check my bank account yesterday morning and found a full refund from Claudette’s. Thank you for taking the time to do that.
I wish I had pictures but I was giving the restaurant a chance to make it right. Since they decided not to, here is my review….
We placed an order today and in that order was a triple club sandwich. We’ve had it before. It’s pretty good. Due to the sandwich size, it does have a tooth pick to hold it together. They have colored tips so you can’t miss it. The tooth picks were removed before consumption. About a third of the way done, my brother took a bite and immediate spit the sandwich out with a mouth full of blood. A broken toothpick had pierced the roof of his mouth. He stood over the sink for about 10 minutes until the blood started to rinse clear. He called his doctor and I called Claudette’s. They took my name and number and said the new owners would be reaching out to see what they can do.
Hours passed and I called the store back and spoke to Emily who took my number. She said she called them and they were sorry and that a refund for the chips they forgot in his order would be issued. (Forgot to mention those didn’t come with his meal.) I explained the damage done to his mouth and felt that a full meal refund would be more appropriate. She said it was out of her hands and she went over all the options and management settled on refunding chips.
I find it such a shame they would much rather get a bad review, lost customers and a dental bill in the mail than refund my $45 purchase. Maybe the old owners would have done a better job. Guess we will never know. As for Claudette’s new owners, shame on your poor...
Read moreadding to the stars because it seems the owner checks these review: i used to love claudette's, i believe it changed ownership in the last few years and i'll admit it looks a lot better inside than it did before and the salad bar is a nice touch. However, the main draw for me was the perch dinners during lent. I don't know if the recipe changed or something, but the perch I had a last week was... well it was awful. I had some decent pasta salad from the bar and a not-bad chicken noodle soup, and I'll admit the fries were quite good, but the fish itself was just plain bad. And I love fish! I cook and eat fish almost every day (usually I buy my ingredients from CAM or the Park to Shop in Chinatown), and I have to say that the perch was either frozen (like the breaded frozen stuff from Costco) or just not treated properly because it had no (good) flavor to it and just tasted of heavy breading and fat. I needed the coleslaw simply to cleanse my pallet! the sign out front says the fish is from port clinton fishers out of lake erie, but i find it hard to believe that fish caught within the last few days and just fried up could taste so bad. even if you caught the fish and froze it right after and defrosted it shortly before cooking, it should be fine, but whatever i got on my plate last week was just not alright.
i sincerely hope claudette's steps its game up. i always aim to support local businesses, and will return next lent to give you all another chance, but i can no longer recommend y'all...
Read moreIt’s my 3rd day with DoorDash and this was my most stressful experience yet. I arrive to Claudette’s 5-7 minutes after receiving notification of a pickup request only to be told it could take up to an hour for an 1 order of eggs Benedict with a side of sausage to be completed. The order should be ready when I arrive or shortly after, 10-15 minutes tops in extreme circumstances. The Manager (owner?) apologized admitting the order should’ve been finished already and suggested I cancel the order for the customer. He then double checked the kitchen and back peddled saying it could maybe be ready in 30 minutes which is still not ok for myself or the customer.
I then spent a lot of time on phone with the customer and DoorDash support to explain the situation so no fault would fall on me. DoorDash and similar services are ratings based which could effect how often I’m considered for pickups in the future. Even worse low ratings could mean termination. Luckily DoorDash covered my wasted gas expenses but my time (which is money) is lost and the customers faith in both DoorDash and the restaurant were understandably impacted negatively.
The restaurant had open tables and no line when I arrived so I don’t understand how this could happen. If you’re advertising yourself as a breakfast cafe you should be ready for a rush on Sundays. If you’re not ready then just don’t open until your staff is trained appropriately. I wouldn’t suggest this place unless you feel like waiting up to an hour...
