After spending a day with some friends in Boulder, on the way back we all decided to have dinner at Babajoon's.
We seated ourselves and noticed that our table was oily. We asked the teenager who was mopping the floor to clean the table. Without washing his hands, he got a dirty rag and unsuccessfully attempted to clean our table. We got napkins and covered the table. We also noticed that the carpeting was filthy with dried up food and food stains.
Our Salmon dish was done right, but all the ground beef kabobs were overcooked and dry.
Next day, when we checked our receipt, we discovered that the owner had added 15% to our food as "Misc", then added tax to it. We called the restaurant and the owner told us the 15% Misc was because he took our order at the table - his tip. Adding to that the tip we left for the young man for bringing the food to our table, the service charge for our meal in this fast food restaurant was over 25%. This was more than what one would have paid for tip at a 5-star full service restaurant.
When we told the owner that he could not charge for table service because he did not advise us, and it was not written anywhere on the menu about this charge, he became abusive and grudgingly refunded the 15%. We also advised him that he could not charge tax on service. However, that advice fell on deaf ears.
If you have a craving for Middle Eastern or Iranian (Persian) food, there are many other restaurants with better food and more sanitary condition. Besides, we bet you will never be charged a 15% for "Table Service", like in this Fast Food restaurant does..
Finally, there are many 5-star reviews for this restaurant with professional photos on Yelp & Tripadvisor.. This is very suspicious! How many impartial reviewers would go through the trouble of developing and posting professional photos?
A follow up.
Today, after over 6 years when we wrote our review, the owner responded with comments wrtten in Iranian wich was full of profanities below. You need to decide what kind of owner would respond to a review with profanities, and if you really want to patronize such an establishment.
Just incase, here is what he wrote. It must be translated to English, if you are not Iranian:

This is lunch at a cafe style, counter service restaurant with paper cups, not dinner for adults at The Oceanaire, just lunch for two adults and two toddlers. A tiny little skewer (maybe a third pound if that) of salmon with maybe 1 full cup of rice is $13.95, and then if you order an extra skewer of salmon it's an additional $12.95, so two skewers of salmon on a plate with a cup of rice, which would be a normal meal at any other restaurant for around $14-$15, is $27 at this place. Are you kidding me? A chicken skewer with a cup of rice on a plate with nothing else is $10. No way. A side of grilled veggies on a 3.5 inch plate (maybe a quarter pound of veggies if that) is $3.95. Seriously? A get it yourself fountain drink in a paper cup was close to $2.50. Wow. It seems to me as though this place maybe slowly failing and the owner is jacking prices through the roof to maybe somehow try to break even before he goes under or something crazy. As for the quality of food: for the price I paid I expected dancing girls and a gold medal ceremony when the meal was done. Instead what we got was average Middle Eastern food. The salmon skewers were a tiny bit overcooked making them slightly dry but not horrible. I would say the food quality on a 1 to 10 scale is about a six or seven. Definitely not worth $80 for lunch. The tomatoes on the grill vegetable plate were mushy and fell apart when you try to cut them. The green peppers were crispy and fresh and the onions were grilled very well. This was the highlight of the meal. The service here also seems to be in disarray as the food delivery/table cleaner person, not once but twice, tried to bring wrong food items to our table that had been ordered apparently by someone else. In hindsight, we should've just taken them and maybe felt a little bit better about having to take out a second mortgage on our house to buy lunch at a fast food restaurant.
Pros: Big parking lot with plenty of space. The grilled veggies are tasty but way overpriced for the quantity Cons: -WWWAAAAYYYY OVERPRICED! -There is only one menu above the cash register that you have to stare up at to order what you want. If there are people behind you in line, good luck. There are no smaller menus anywhere to look at. -WWAAAAYYYY OVERPRICED! The counter service/bus person/food delivery person had an attitude like they were working for free.

Read moreThey don’t tell you about their “hidden fees” such as they charge more for white meat of chicken, also now that COVID 19 is happening, they are charging an extra 10 percent fee and the lady explained that all restaurants are doing this to sustain their business . She was not gonna tell me about it unless I questioned my bill why it came out so high . Never coming back here, all businesses should be transparent but not this one
Update: came to check it out after COVID-19 have passed and all the food businesses are up and running at full capacity and potential to give it a second chance. I noticed that they have a bad turnout rate with their front of house employees, they now have a small font printed paper stating about the extra charge but can’t read unless you are standing 10 inches away from it. Register person still won’t let you know for any additional charges besides what you see in the menu, just because you print out small font “signs” about the extra 10% charge because of COVID, doesn’t mean that is right. Besides the point, nobody does that anymore, all businesses have came out of that and up and running, why can’t you just change the price of your menu? Is it because you want to make it seem a more affordable price when in reality is not ? Plus the portions got smaller somehow, so now you’re paying about $22 for a scoop of rice, a chicken and beef kebab with a half tomato and...
