Like many others, I stopped by (grabbed take out) for the Carolina pork sandwich, and it was delicious! The apple cole slaw is a neat take on a classic. Also decided to try some of the dry rub wings and the mac and cheese. The wings were crispy and flavorful, will definitely have to try the buffalo next. The mac and cheese was so-so, and the "side" size was pretty small for the price. I'd come back for the meat, but not so sure about the sides until I try more (perhaps the sides are bigger when you dine in). I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say 5 stars!
Update: Tried the baked beans and they were delicious - great combo of smokey, spicy and sweet. However the big downside is that I left feeling pretty disappointed that I paid $3.50 for such a small portion (see photo). Gonna lower to 4 stars.
Update: Finally visited in person to redeem my free ribs coupon. The coupon offered 3 free ribs, and I'd say I got at least 3 ribs worth. Only ordered the fries this time, which isn't a great comparison regarding my complaint on the take-out sizes. I did see the tray that they would normally serve the smaller sides in, and it did seem larger than the take-out ones. Still small, but more for the money. Also a note on the fries - they were really salty. My girlfriend liked them, but it was too much for me.
Update: Back again hahah. Stopped by for the Philly cheese steak special, which was beef brisket, cheese sauce, and sauteed onions and peppers. It was quite good - not very much like a cheese steak but good nonetheless. There was a lot of meat, and because of that not quite enough peppers/onions and cheese, but it wasn't a huge deal. Also finally ordered the beans in person. It was more than you get for the same sized takeout, but still not as much as I'd like for the price.
(Possible) final conclusion: The food is consistently delicious, but the prices are definitely on the higher side. Dining in is a better experience, primarily because of the sauces they offer and the ease of additional service, plus the...
Read moreI thought this was a national or regional chain restaurant based on the packaging. It’s kinda like Buffalo Wild Wings meets Dickey’s. Neither of those are good. By the way, do they smoke the meats at this location or bring them in?? The positive - the line was short and the food was ready quickly. The challenges - I ordered a variety of meats and sides. I ordered a 1/2 lb of brisket. No one asked me if I wanted lean vs. moist. #1 indicator it isn’t a ‘real’ bbq joint. If I got an actual 1/2 lb I would be surprised. Cuts seemed meager and it was so fatty I almost couldn’t eat it. It was mushy, almost like it was boiled. I also got the ribs. They were of a good cut with good meat on them. The flavor was average. Both meats tasted like ‘corporate BBQ’ (I.e. Dickeys) and didn’t have much smoke on it. The dry rub was plain and uninspiring. No rizz. Both were packaged together in a PLASTIC container, no paper. No pickles or onions anywhere to be found- #2 and #3 indicators it isn’t a ‘real’ bbq joint. The green beans were plain, but good. The mashed potatoes and gravy were decent. Both were lacking spice and flavor but were ok. I looked up GQue and where they were from and other locations, etc. After finding out they serve this at the stadiums it makes more sense. This is basically the BBQ equivalent of a Rockies hot dog. Yes I’m a BBQ snob. Yes my family has roots in the Austin TX area so I compare every BBQ that’s here to there. Maybe it’s not fair. But BBQ is expensive, and I want something worth it. GQue is a decent neighborhood place if you have the hankering for BBQ. But I wouldn’t recommend as a...
Read moreI tried the GQue BBQ in Westminster last week for the first time. A friend had tried GQue and recommended them to me. I ordered a Sasquatch sandwich, a single mashed potatoes, and a double apple coleslaw. The total bill was almost $25 including tax. I took the order home, and the first thing I noticed was that the sandwich bun was way too small to handle the meat, and it was very difficult to enjoy it. The brisket was very dry and did not offer the real taste of this type of meat. I did use the BBQ sauces that came with the sandwich, but overall the sandwich experience was quite disappointing for $14.29. There was certainly no room in the puny bun to add the small amount of coleslaw they give you with the sandwich. Very messy and had to try to eat it on a plate piece by piece. The single order of mashed potatoes was a visibly small portion, and even my wife commented that it wasn't worth the cost. The double order of apple coleslaw had a rather unique flavor that I enjoyed, but the overall size of the "double order" was not really worth the $5.99 price tag. For that price, it should have been twice the size. I love doing business with smaller independently owned restaurants. I am not trying to be overly critical in this review, but for almost $25.00 I think it could be a lot better. Hopefully, the owners might realize that guaranteed best way to get continued return customers is to not skimp on the portions no matter what the cost is. And finally try to keep the brisket and the sausage warm and moist like good...
