$19 for a Burrito?! Charged $6 for Green Chile & Cheese -- Then Told "Don't Order It Again"
If you value fair pricing and respectful customer service, you may want to think twice before eating here.
I had two very different experiences at this restaurant that left me feeling overcharged and disrespected. Here's what happened:
1️⃣ First Visit: I ordered a smothered burrito, which at the time of this review is listed at $12.99. I asked for extra green chile and extra cheese, thinking it would be a small upcharge. But when I checked the receipt, I was charged $2.99 for EACH item — totaling $5.98
This means my $12.99 burrito suddenly turned into a $19 burrito just for asking for a little extra chile and cheese.
And here’s the part that makes it worse: I ordered my burrito with no tomatoes, no sour cream, no guacamole, and no lettuce. So not only did I receive LESS food, but I was also charged MORE money. How does that make sense? Shouldn’t the removal of those ingredients balance out the cost of adding extra green chile and cheese? It feels like I’m being overcharged for no reason.
Since this didn’t feel right, I called and spoke with a supervisor. But instead of helping me, the supervisor was rude and dismissive. When I questioned the price, his response was, and I quote:
“Next time, you shouldn’t order the burrito.”
This is how you treat a paying customer? Instead of explaining the policy, he acted like I was being unreasonable for asking about the price. He also claimed that the extra charges were to “pay for the honest work of the kitchen.” While I support fair wages for kitchen staff, hiding behind that as a reason for eye-popping extra fees is dishonest and greedy.
On top of that, let’s use logic for a moment. The container they serve the burrito in has small sections on the side for rice and beans. Does it even seem physically possible to add 4 oz of extra green chile and cheese to that container? Think about it — where would 4 oz of extra chile and cheese even fit? It feels like they’re charging for something they aren’t actually providing.
2️⃣ Second Visit: Despite that experience, I decided to give them another chance. I ordered the same smothered burrito with extra green chile and cheese — but this time, I was only charged $2.99 TOTAL for both items, not $5.98.
At this point, it became clear that the pricing is completely inconsistent and unpredictable.
When I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was told there was “no supervisor available.” Moments later, a man appeared and claimed to be the manager. Instead of being helpful, he approached me in a defensive and confrontational manner. His attitude made me feel unwelcome and uncomfortable, as if I were the problem for simply asking about pricing.
⚠️ Key Takeaways for Future Customers: $19 for a Smothered Burrito?! The burrito costs $12.99 but with extra green chile and cheese, it totaled $19 — and that’s without a drink.
Inconsistent Pricing: I was charged $5.98 for extras one day, but only $2.99 the next — for the exact same order.
Less Food, Higher Price: I ordered my burrito with NO tomatoes, NO sour cream, NO guacamole, and NO lettuce — yet I was still charged more for extra green chile and cheese. If I’m getting less food, why am I paying more?
Questionable Logic: The container used to hold the burrito has small sections for rice and beans. How are they fitting 4 oz of extra green chile and cheese in that container? It seems like I’m being charged for something I’m not even getting.
Rude Staff & Management: Told "don't order it next time" and was met with defensiveness from the manager when I asked for clarification.
I’m sharing my experience so other customers know what to expect. If management actually cared about customer feedback, they would address these issues directly, but based on my experience, they prioritize defensiveness over professionalism.
If this happened to me, it can happen to anyone. Be prepared for price gouging and poor service if you choose...
Read moreWe were seated just before 7pm. I really wanted to like this place but my $20 dinner special was a joke. I got the Tampiquena which is a 7oz Angus beef steak, an enchilada, and a chicken flauta. Sounds delicious and I'm starving and pregnant! My "steak" was a paper thin over cooked shaved beef. Legit paper thin, zero exaggeration. I should have taken a picture...The picture on the menu had a juicy thick steak, not a sheet of shaved beef. My enchilada was a tortilla wrapped around dry Cotija cheese (maybe, I'm guesing on the cheese) with sauce poured over it. The cheese was still raw and cold and powder, like a Parmesan shaker. The flauta was so dry I couldn't even eat it, tasted like a microwave frozen taquito but worse. I didn't say anything to the server, which I should have as this was unacceptable. Again, I'm pregnant and starving so I shoveled down my paper beef, but the only other thing I ate was the refried beans... My date got the Molcajete and loved it, zero complaints from her. We also got the queso tiger Blanco, so disappointed. Tasted like canned cheese sauce. My velveeta and rotel tastes better than this advertised queso with a fancy name, it also wasn't white. We both got churros to-go. Our fault for not looking at the menu but what we didn't realize was that the churros came topped with ice cream... so us ladies stayed and chatted for a while then we each had a 30min ride home only to discover our swimming churros... I just wish the server would have mentioned something as we asked for them to-go and they came wrapped and sealed in a bag. Disappointed again.
Service was good though. We had several servers come ask us how everything was, service was quick, my water was refilled, chips refilled, no complaints there. We were seated outside at the very end of the outdoor tarp. Bad timing I guess as the place was packed and this was the first table open. I had to keep my winter coat on the whole dinner because it was so cold. There wasn't a heater near us at that end of the tent. The inside of the diner looked chic and comforting but we never...
Read moreNice little hole in the wall place. Simple diner like setting. Basic tables and chairs, no real decor. A little compacted, but has a nice additional enclosed patio. Was there on a Wednesday night and it was packed! Was loud and chaotic. Was packed next to people where we constantly were bumping eachother, apologizing and saying excuse me. Complementary chips and salsa to start. 3/10 on the chips. Half of them were under cooked and still hard and chew, unfortunately. The few that were fully cooked, were fine though! House margaritas and nachos to start. The margaritas weres strong, which was nice being $13. The nachos were good. All the chips were cooked nicely and came with a decent portion for the price. Packed with chicken, beans, Pico guacamole and sour cream. It's a good starter. The vegetables fajitas are ok. They don't have them on the menu, so I don't think they have a wide selection of veggies to use. They just subtracted the meat and added corn and tomatoes, and still charged the same price as getting meat. $17. Good flavor, but nothing really special to set them apart from just basic sautéed vegetables. Didn't get any tortillas with them. Beef enchiladas were good, again nothing special. Caritas plate had good flavor. A little dry and the green chile is nkee jbJust decent Mexican food. If the chips didn't start me off on a bad note, I'd probably had given it a 4. Overall, the servers were nice, service was good, and the food was authentic Mexican. Not bad at all but nothing to set it apart from...
