Very disappointed with ordering take-out from Taco Grill - Salsa Bar. Inside, the place has a self-serve salsa bar with at least 16 different salsas, limes, and jalapeno peppers. They have small salsa containers stacked alongside the self-serve salsa bar for patrons (more on that below). Based on my experience and from what I have observed, if you eat in you can have as many salsa containers you need/want for your meal. For example, if you order 6 tacos you can help yourself to any number of salsa containers for your tacos, such as one per taco, or even more. However, when two friends of mine and I ordered 4 tacos and a tostada to-go, we were told we can have only two small salsa containers for our ENTIRE ORDER. That’s two small containers for three people.
Moreover, the cashier handed us two pre-filled salsa containers from behind the counter. In other words, not only were we shorted on salsas - we were not even allowed to select the salsas we wanted. As it turned out, the salsas given to us from the cashier were not flavorful and not spicy AT ALL. For a place with a salsa bar, it seems pretty darn stingy to allow only two small containers of salsa per order. One of the primary reasons I frequented Taco Grill was the salsa bar. Given they allow only two small to-go containers per order of pre-selected non flavorful salsas, I have no reason to order food from there anymore.
Also, be careful if you order cheese on your taco al carbons… they charge an extra $1.39 PER TACO for that small amount of cheese alone. I’ve gotten burned by that charge several times.
COVID WARNING: Regarding the salsa bar, I’ve witnessed eat-in people grab and separate salsa containers, fill the ones they are taking to their table, and putting the ones they don’t need back on the stacks of containers. How is it that Taco Grill gets away with patrons touching other patron’s salsa containers during COVID? In addition, people, one after the other, hover over the salsa bar as they scoop salsa into their containers. How is it that Taco Grill gets away with patron after patron hovering over the entire salsa bar during COVID? For this reason as well, I will no longer order any food...
Read moreIt was late ...what was nope near midnight especially for someone who wanted hearty homestyle Mexican food. I was weighing the danger or traveling into chicago versus supposedly higher end suburban choice. Here pops up taco salsa whatever...still open...no one in there...the employees (5 or 6) have the enthusiasm of a funeral director. And yeah let's tell the truth you can't love your job if you don't put your life into it. Covid economy sucks but better to close the store than unforgettably ruin your reputation and any chance you would have for repeat customers. I order three lengua tacos with everything I get almost not meat and fillings...this was the GOOD thing. My dad owned legendary Chicago restaurants...I own all cuisines I ate them I their native countries and I can cook them authentically... OLD STALE DRY RANCID OFF TASTING RICE...MEAT WITH NO FLAVOR...FIGURED I COULD HIDE IT WITH ONE OF THEIR TWENTY(!) FRESH SALSAS...MOST JUST GENERICALLY HOT...MOST OF THEM HAD HINTS OF WINE ALCOHOL TOMATO FERMENTATION. I ALWAYS FINISH MY MEAL AND LEAVE AN EMPTY PLATE. HERE I LEFT IT ALONE...RUN DO NOT WALK FOR YOUR LIFE....ZERO STARS THEY DONT CARE THEY ARE BURNED OUT THEY DONT MAKE ENOUGH TO BUY FRESH PRODUCT...NO ENOUGH CUSTOMER TURNOVER I DO NOT CARE...HONESTLY AND SINCERELY ONE OF THE GENUINELY WORST RESTAURANT EXPERIENCES OF MY LIFE...NO TASTE NO VALUE NO HOSPITALITY NO FRESHNESS NO QUALITY...hard to believe it was in an upscale suburb I will try to forget it but I am...
Read moreI’ve been eating here for years. My company consistently purchases food here. I understand that sometimes things get mixed up and human error happens, but it is how we handle our mistakes that separates a great establishment from a poor one. I ordered my food and I specifically ordered nachos without onions. I made it very clear that I was allergic to onions and if there was any ingredients that included onions to omit it and add everything else that didn’t have onions. The young man even went as far as going over what should be on the order because again I am stated I was allergic. Needless to say, my Nachos had onions. I was extremely irritated because it was not the first time this had happened to me here with my food. I called and told them about my order and I was immediately enlightened with what is on always on the nachos, I stopped the woman and I let her know I had specifically asked for no onions. She then told me to come come back and bring the Nachos back. When I brought them back the Lady was extremely rude asking me to pay for another set of nachos. I showed her my receipt where it clearly reads no onions. Horrible experience. I understand we make mistakes and things are missed but their response to this error has lost my business. And thank goodness I caught the onion before I consumed it, because a new set of Nachos would have been the least of...
