Disclaimer: I'm a seasoned server and bartender with over 15 years of experience working in fast-paced Mexican restaurants. I know what good service entails, and unfortunately, I didn't receive it when I dined here for the first time yesterday. First thoughts upon walking in: the decor is pretty dated. The guy who greeted us asked if we wanted a booth or a table; we picked a booth, and were seated right away. A gentleman, who I assumed was our server, walked up to us almost immediately and asked us if we wanted something to drink. I wanted to take a little time to look over the menu so I asked our server for waters to start. Apparently he forgot them because I had to ask again. My husband and I ended up ordering 2 of the frozen lime margaritas which were ok. There was no taste whatsoever of liquor in them, and considering the fact that they were mixed in a blender, the consistency wasn't bad. Food was good, and came out quickly.
My main issue was really the service - or lack thereof. When our server set the food down, he didn't ask us if there was anything else we needed - hot sauce, napkins, whatever.. he just said, 'Enjoy,' and walked away, which reminds me.. before our food even came out, my husband and I smashed the basket of chips and salsa (the salsa was really good, by the way), and I literally saw our server peer over at our table while he was bussing the table behind us, but he made no effort to bring us more chips and salsa until I asked. Bad bad bad! Our server didn't bother to ask my husband if he wanted a 2nd margarita. Hello! You're losing out on a higher check average and higher tip by skipping this step, silly! Our server also didn't bother to do a 2-minute check to see how we liked the food. Again, bad bad bad! The only saving grace in all this is one of the other servers working helped fill in the gaps of our server. She was the one who got my husband his 2nd margarita. She was the one who brought us extra napkins, to-go boxes as well as our check and quite frankly, she's the one who should've gotten the tip we left. Though the food was good, everything else sucked.. so I'll...
Read moreDecember 13th and December 20th 2019 I am always getting coupons for this restaurant buy one meal get one meal free so finally decided to check out the restaurant. The place is located in a strip mall and can be very easily missed and hard to exit as well. The inside is dimly lit but you can still see the menu at your table. The place was busy but that could be due to the coupon offered. The decor appeared ..... not fresh... maybe old making the place look dingy. The lights which I'm gonna assume they used LED bulbs on a dimmer switch that was made for incandescent bulbs cause they constantly flickered. Ordered the same meal both instances . The service was decent we were seated and served chips quick. The chips themselves were typical corn chips a bit on the hard side and the salsa a tad spicy but lacking flavor. The meal combo I ordered skirt steak as my meat. The Spanish rice was tasty but sadly the skirt steak was super tough in everything it filmed and yes I understand skirt steak is not filet mignon and I like skirt steak. The meal was super tough and I left unimpressed. The second time I tried again, figuring why not but no, meat was still super tough and flavorless, I actually thought the meal was lacking all around and this time the rice was even lacking in flavor and the black bean had none at all. Yes you get a good coupon but that's the only draw and I will not be back again even for the...
Read moreMy family has dined at the Las Palmas Westmont location many times, and although the service was never spectacular (slow service, etc.), tonight was particularly awful. First of all, we had to wait about 45 minutes before anyone waited on us to take our order. We had about two waitresses taking turns with us and then they completely confused our order. The food was basically thrown down on the table, and the presentation was very sloppy. Then we had the audacity to want to eat more chips and salsa. We asked for more chips, which was another 20 minutes of waiting. Then one of the waitresses comes by, brings us the chips, and then says, "I see you didn't eat my salsa, I'm insulted." I proceeded to remind her that we were waiting for more chips to eat with the salsa, and she said "You've already had two! That's your third one, you know!" So rude and argumentative. How disrespectful to treat customers in that manner. I approached the manager and informed him that I was very unhappy with how the waitress treated us, and he just stared at me. And when I walked away, the waitress proceeded to laugh. I have dined in many Mexican restaurants throughout my life, and I never was treated so badly. Not even an apology from the manager. This is not a way to run a business. He lost some loyal customers. You don't berate a customer for any reason!! We will NEVER return...
