I have to say I was excited when I heard Fatto e Mano were opening in a larger space, but disappointed now that Ive gone twice.
They have a small amount of overpriced retail items - which is expected.
What wasn't expected was the sandwiches.
Got the "Truffled Sandwich" : Truffle Straciattella, Prosciutto, Arugula, on Focaccia. The first time I got it, I thought it was a mistake, as there was no truffle flavor at all -and there was only a tiny amount of prosciutto - cut thicker than it should be for a sandwich and kind of plopped on there. I heard the same from my colleagues that also got that.
So I went back the following day (Day two I believe) and got another - same thing, no truffle flavor and I took the prosciutto off the sandwich and weighed it on a scale my assistant has for her diet. There was .14 of prosciutto !!! and no truffle flavor to be found.
Since there's so little meat and so much bread that you really only can taste bread (not really a foccacia). So, I tasted the cheese directly: the Straciatella cheese tasted weird - almost like they put truffle oil in the cheese and mixed it up.
Again, prosciutto cut too thick for a sandwich and plopped on there making it really chewy.
These are premade also.... - and for $14.00. Across town at A&S I can get an incredible sandwich twice the size with a half pound of meat on it for $12.00. I usually save half of that one for dinner or split it with a colleague.
Fatto e Mano's sandwich can be easily fixed if they pay attention - they need to add more prosciutto and watch the slicing of it....they need to use a fresh ricotta or something else than what it on there now, and then drizzle truffle oil on sandwich when purchased - or give it on the side.
Their breads are AMAZING, and the pastries fantastic - although really pricey - so if lunch is going to be their thing - I hope they work on these sandwiches . That place is too big and I'm sure too expensive to survive on people sitting there all day drinking coffee.
I know they just opened so I hope they work to improve their sandwich and lunch offerings as Im excited they are closer to my office - with the only other options in this area being Organika (not my thing), or Garelick and Herbs - which has really gone downhill.
It's already a welcome addition for coffee and breads (most definitely) just hope I can come to count on...
Read morePierluigi and his team are absolutely exceptional! He created a wonderful experience for our wedding in July with a traditional live millefoglie cake. Millefoglie has always been my husband’s and my favorite, as we both grew up having it as our birthday cakes. When Pierluigi was able to create this as our wedding cake live, it meant so much to us. Not only was it exceptionally delicious—light, flavorful, and perfectly balanced—but our guests still can’t stop talking about it. It was truly the highlight of our wedding reception.
Pierluigi and his team also created custom decorative breads for our bread table during cocktail hour. The display was so detailed and beautifully arranged, and the bread itself was just as delicious.
We have been coming to Fatto a Mano Bakery for awhile, and everything is always crafted to perfection. The sourdough, focaccia, biscotti, pastries, cappuccino, olive oil cake—you name it—are the closest you’ll get to being in Italy, and every bite is absolutely delicious. Plus, the panettone during Christmas time is now a staple in our family! Using the simplest yet highest quality ingredients, Pierluigi crafts everything to perfection. He is so kind and a truly wonderful person, and you can tell he pours so much passion and love into everything he creates!
We always look forward to visiting his bakery and enjoying all the treats. Thank you so much,...
Read moreI never take the time to write reviews, but I feel so strongly about how grossly overpriced fatto a mono is I felt I should warn others.
I am not afraid to spend money, and I have lived in the Fairfield/Westport community for 35 years.
A small loaf of Italian bread $13? And then an additional 50 cents to slice it?
A small box of Limoncello cookies (exactly 12 half dollar size cookies) that were hard and stale, tasting like last weeks stock. $15. Made fresh daily? Not these!
The best was $25, Twenty five dollars! For a small bag of hard, very ordinary cantucci biscotti. Maybe 6 pieces…. Again, hard and crumbly, not fresh.
Nothing in the store had marked prices, and I wasn’t paying attention and just tapped my CC. That’s my fault for sure, but be warned you are paying 3 to 4 times the going rate for average, middle of the road backed goods.
I tried to call to ask if the $25 for the biscotti was correct…. While they were open for business, the phone immediately goes to voicemail and directs you to email if you have a question or want to make a comment.
There are many great bakery options in Fairfield and Westport. Fatto a Mano is a one and done in my book.
Insanely expensive, average goods that taste like they have been sitting...
