(Last visited 9/11/2020.) It's a gorgeous late summer's day during a pandemic and we're looking for outdoor seating so that we feel safe. This place has a very big outdoor seating section so we're here to check it out!
Atmosphere/Appearance: Based right in "downtown" Wethersfield is this neighborhood gem. There is a private parking lot around the back of the restaurant, but if it's full there is plenty of street parking available, but be mindful of the times and meter rules. It's such a cute and well, home-y (I get homely and homey mixed up, but whichever word that means "feels like home") place. It just looks like a big house and when you're walking through it you get the same feeling.
Service: Chloe took excellent care of us. She was quick, enthusiastic, friendly, knowledgeable and made sure we got all of our happy hour orders in before the clock ran out. Lol.
Food: Wings are on the happy hour menu so that's my go-to! They offer 4 flavors (Honey D's BBQ, buffalo, teriyaki and jerk pineapple sauce) so we tried all 4. My favorite were the jerk pineapple. It was just different. It took me back to the Caribbean with a hint of spice and of course, that unique jerk flavor. My least favorite were teriyaki, but I figured they would because I'm just not a big fan of that type of sauce. The pitcher of their house sangria was delicious though and plenty strong!
Value: Pretty good in my opinion! A pitcher of sangria was $24.00 and it my memory serves me correctly, we got about 5-6 glasses out of it. Each order of wings was $6.00 and you get 6 wings per order. That averages to be about $1.00 a wing. Solid deal. You won't break your bank here, but you do pay for the quality of the food for sure.
In conclusion, I really liked this place and the surrounding area. After you're done eating you can take a nice walk around the neighborhood to work off some of the food.
Lol. It you've read this far and haven't gotten enough, please head on over to YouTube and checkout "The Hungry Road". I give video reviews of different restaurants all over the country. Thank you...
Read moreIf you are considering having an event at this restaurant, my advice is to run fast and run far away from Lucky Lou's. The owner, Lucas, is the most arrogant person that my wife and I have ever met. We should have seen the red flags from the beginning such as not wanting to provide a written contract and making a point to tell us that he will only accept cash or checks written personally to him. We think that he does not provide a contract and only wants cash or personal checks is so that there is no record of having an event at the restaurant, and so that the customer has no recourse if they do not get what is "promised" by Lucas. My wife and I met with Lucas on a two occasions to try to get a menu established, only to to be greeted with his arrogant attitude "I don't have time for you. You just tell me what you want". A week before our event, we still did not have a menu established so my wife detailed a menu for him, and provided him with a check (again made out personally to him and not the restaurant) with a per person charge that we briefly discussed with him (however, we were never provided a contract so we really did not know what the cost was - or what we were even getting!). We were greeted with a phone message from Lucas at 7:00 am the Sunday prior to our event stating that he does not want to do our event and that we are treating him with disrespect by providing him with a menu. That left us scrambling to find another venue for my son's bar mitzvah which was less than one week away. We were fortunate to find a reputable restaurant who treated US with respect, provided us with a detailed contract, and did not request cash or checks made out personally to the owner. It was actually a relief to have the event canceled at Lucky Lou's as all he did was create more stress for us. Who knows what would have happened the day of the event if we did have it at this restaurant . . . perhaps our guests would have been greeted with his signature line "I don't have...
Read moreI dined here for dinner tonight, taking my mother and mother in law out to dinner for Mothers Day. I would like to preface by saying it was not a busy night. Our server was attentive, until the end. We started with happy hour, which was fine, good drinks and mediocre (at best) appetizers. When it came to dinner, we decided to split a few entrees. We split the crispy fried shrimp and the NY Strip special. The crispy shrimp was a highlight of the meal, but the steak came out severely undercooked. We ordered medium (a hot, pink center) and received a purple inside. We asked the server to have the NY cooked longer. It was brought out a second time after being put back on the grill, still undercooked. I’m sorry, if dark red blood is pooling on the plate, this is NOT medium. Our server asked again if it was ok, and we responded no, she offered to have it put back on the grill again. After 3 times on the grill, this would turn into show leather, so we told her we would just take it home. All this, to be surprised when the bill came and we were charged $50 for a Steak that could not be cooked correctly. Not once, did a manager come by, nor could they comp a cup of coffee after a subpar meal. Unfortunately, too many times have we tried this restaurant, ignored subpar food, to give another chance. This time, our server was great, but could not make up for the lack of good food. For this, I would be hesitant to return or recommend this...
