EAT ELSEWHERE!! My family and I used to be frequent (weekly) patron of Amici's, for decades. Even before they moved to their current location. The food quality has been declining rapidly over the past year or so.
The sausage always looks raw in the center (this has been a frequent problem for them in the past with health inspectors). I asked the manager and she explained the sausage had a pink center due "soaking in sauce all day." Yuck! The sauce is bland and flavorless. The salad is made with iceberg lettuce and the ranch, according to the server, is a hidden valley packet they mix up in the back. The pepperonis on top of the salad are always hot. The fries served with sandwiches are frozen store bought and taste as such. The "fresh bread" is bought at Safeway. It seems like nothing is made fresh anymore and customers are eating leftovers. All this coming in at an overpriced and hefty bill!
The bathrooms are always filled with customers who are complaining something made them sick, even before LEAVING the restaurant. I've witnessed several customers family members having to go check on someone in the bathroom to make sure they are okay.
Food aside, there are friendly staff members and servers, sometimes. Tonight, I encounter one of the daughters of the owners as a host. She used to be so friendly back in the day; however, since having kids and becoming a manager, she is the RUDEST staff member. Her abrasive nature is driving away buisness. I witnessed customers trying to engage her in light conversation as they pay their bill. Instead, she slaps the receipt down on the counter and calls for the next person likes she's calling cattle. Even to long time patrons. It's sad to see and experience.
For these reasons, I will be discouraging my family against going to this restaurant in the future, as well as, the readers of this review. There are so many other great Italian restaurants on 44th with DELICIOUS and FRESH food, FRIENDLY owners, and...
Read moreMy mother discovered this wonderful place Amicis because she used to go there for lunch often with her co-workers in the early 80's at their old location. Soon she started taking her parents and I to Amicis and we have always loved it. Here it is 2020 and sadly it's just my mother and I left in the family but we followed them to their newest location on Wadsworth Avenue in Wheat Ridge. Some of our favorite things to get here: fantastic sausage and pepper sandwiches, fettuccine alfredo, the homemade spaghetti (make sure you ask for the homemade spaghetti noodles or you will end up with the thin, boring spaghetti noodles, the vegetarian cannoli (it is HUGE), you can share this with another person), and on Friday nights they have a take out extra large pizza special (well we always take it out, not sure if you can do dine in with this and it is only on Friday nights). People mention not liking the salads here, I am assuming these are serious lettuce connoisseurs. True it is just iceberg lettuce, but they make it fun with pepperoni slices and cheese on top. I enjoy it. Save room for their delicious spumoni ice cream. So refreshing on one if these hot summer days. Most not all of the waitresses are quite nice and not total divas like some of these reviewers are saying. This is a family run restaurant so most of the workers are family. If you aren't too keen on a lot of noise, go early it is much quiter and the lunch menu is much cheaper than the dinner menu and you can get most of the same items for a few dollars less. Friday nights, fughetaboutit try the extra large pizza take out on Friday nights and enjoy your giant, delicious pizza in the comfort of your own home. We always get the vegetarian pizza with the regular crust, but they have any variation you can think of. Support local restaurants like Amici's during this awful pandemic era and help keep these wonderful restaurants...
Read moreThree things: (1) Bring your appetite. (2) Mon-Thurs before 4:00 PM, 25% off for seniors! That's a lot! (3) It's all delicious. All of it. Everything on the dang menu. It's also reasonably priced; not fast food level, but not bad at all.
This is one of the best red-sauce Italian places I've been to, and I'm counting places in Boston and near NYC. It's not fancy-dancy new Italian cuisine - just pasta, pizza, and the like; it's "regular old red sauce" Italian, and extremely good.
And that sauce is excellent, and did I indicate the portions are huge? (They have half portions available.)
The minestrone is the only soup; other choices are totally unnecessary, since it's home-made, and delicious. The salad is large, enhanced with cheese and slices of pepperoni. We saw a waitress carrying off a truly giant plate of salad, and on the way back asked her if that was a large size. She said no. Large is two of those. :-)
The pasta seems home made, too, although they don't seem to push the fact. I say that because it runs on the thick side (which I'm fine with): the "Angel hair" is spaghetti thickness you would buy at a supermarket, and the spaghetti is thicker than that. But it's all good.
The sausage is superior; meaty, flavorful, and just a little spice. The meatballs are solid, big, and very tasty. Unless you're really really hungry, don't ask for added ones of either (though it's available), since they're big.
This is one of those places where you have to watch out or you'll disobey the old Far Side dictum: Don't eat anything bigger than your head. :-)
I'm so sorry the second one that was up in northern Westminster closed down; we used to go there often, since it was closer. This is out of the way for us, reserved now for special occasions just because it's not in the neighborhood.
And the service is very friendly and responsive, and the decor fits well. All in all a...
