Supper Club Night
We went to the Red Barn on 2/27/25 for their supper club night unsure of what to expect, and we left thoroughly amazed. It was held upstairs which was the perfect setting for a supper club, with wood panelling, dim lighting, accented by lit center pieces.
Started off with a Brandy Old Fashioned/sweet (made by an awesome bartender -Brandon) but you could substitute with bourbon or whiskey, along with a shrimp cocktail and the relish tray. The shrimp were huge and tender and the relish tray could have fed more than two people. We took half of it home so we would be able to eat our dinners. The relish tray was a modern take on that you may traditionally find. Every supper club has their own twist with combinations of pickled and fresh veggies, meats/fish and fruits. This one had it all. Carrots, celery, olives, gherkins, cherry peppers, prosciutto, soda crackers and spreadable cheese along with dates, figs and apricots.
Next came our wedge salad and baked french onion soup, along with rolls and butter. Both were fantastic and we were almost full at this point.
Next came our entrees -airline chicken served with Yukon Gold mashed potatoes and succotash and a medium rare prime rib with baked potato along with butter and sour cream. Never had chicken that tender and the potatoes were buttery and creamy without being complete mush. The succotash was unexpected and a neat delicious twist. The prime rib was cooked perfectly, juicy, tender and had minimal fat. It came served with au jus and horseradish sauce. The baked potato was the perfect compliment. Half the meals came home as we were stuffed.
Couldn’t find room for desert but saw a delicious looking creme brûlée. I did sample the brandy alexander and the grasshopper however. The grasshopper has thin mints sprinkled on top. What a great twist! The drinks were ice cream based but not thick milkshake consistency. This was a good thing because I was able to enjoy both without being miserably stuffed later.
The only downside was that I was not able to enjoy some of the other offerings on the menu. I did try one of the lamb chops from a friend that happened to be dining there, and it was seasoned and cooked perfectly and super tender.
DJ, Dawn, and their team did a truly wonderful job. Kamila was our server and she exceeded expectations in her attitude, knowledge, and service.
Running something this specialized while still managing the regular dinner flow is a testament to their exceptional care and treatment of their guests. I’ve been going to supper clubs for over 40 years -since I was a kid, and this was an amazing tribute! Ii hope they bring it...
Read moreI was really excited to visit this restaurant on game day because of all the draft beer on tap. They also had game day food specials advertised. It was a major disappointment to be told that the taps were down, so no draft beer was available. At one point, we were told the line should be repaired in about an hour, but that didn't happen, as far as I know. Because the beer taps were down, we were told the game day special beer-marinated brat wasn't available, either. We ordered alternate beverages, including a canned beer, a glass of wine, and mixed drink. The mixed drink was well-balanced, flavorful and the perfect temperature. However, the beer and wine were served warm. To the staff's credit, once that was pointed out, new chilled beverages were delivered quickly. Our table ordered a pizza, the trio chip appetizer and some of the game day specials. The food reviews were mixed. Four people ordered the game day hot dog specials (from age 5 to age 75) and everyone said they were not good. One guest ordered the chili and experienced almost immediate distressing digestive symptoms. The pizza, however, was great - well above average. The children 's pizza also looked great, but there was oregano on the child's pizza which caused a need for some coaching and encouragement for the 3 year-old to eat it. Eventually, mom had to pick off the oregano. :) The cheese dip and guacamole on the chip trio were very good; the salsa was different, but good. The restaurant dining areas and bathrooms were clean and well-stocked. It's a shame that the taps were down when we were there - there were many interesting brews on the menu and I'm sure that is one of the biggest appeals of...
Read moreWhat a mixed bag of reviews. Came on Saturday night early (5:30) before the band and it got busy. If you show up late the staff is tired just like at a retail restaurant and they want to go home.
Found it searching the web and had mostly positive reviews without the normal stuff you find.
Starters: Big Giant pretzel - 4.5 Stars and queso great. Not your normal food service pretzel logs that are reheated. Ham/Cheese Empanada- 5+ We will go back to try the others. Hot Pocket but really good.
Dinner Fried chicken - Crisp, moist, gravy, mashed potatoes and a great crust Sloppy Joe - Who has a sloppy joe - A+ Mac N Cheese with Sloppy Joe- Bring the whole family - It's huge and tasty. I would be great on it's own Pulled Pork - Even the most picky liked it. I smoke meats and always think the pulled pork is the easiest to do. You need to try to crew up pulled pork but this was very good.
Dessert Donut Holes - Better than Bombo bar downtown.
Covid note: September 18th masks are required inside. Half the staff had them on and half didn't. Patrons walked through the restaurant without masks. We are all fully vaccinated and felt safe. They seem lack on health issues (Excluding kitchen as we didn't see it) as a regular at the bar was also vaping.
Will I be back.. Absolutely yes and want to try...
