Five Stars – A Most Delightful Supper at Umi, the House of Japanese Steak
Upon the eve of our dining at Umi, a noble establishment of Japanese fare and flaming spectacle, we were most graciously received into a hall brimming with mirth and warm light. The air was rich with the scent of seared meats and seasoned rice, and the clatter of goblets and laughter did fill the space with cheer.
Of all the boons we did receive that night, none shone brighter than the ministrations of Mistress Kylee, our fair and diligent server. With the grace of a courtly lady and the wisdom of one well-versed in the culinary arts, she did guide us through the scroll of offerings, her voice as sweet as summer’s breeze. Oft she appeared, as if summoned by thought alone, bearing forth drink and sustenance with unwavering cheer.
Behind the bar, Mistress Meg, a most gifted alchemist of spirits, did ply her craft with flair and precision. With deft hand and discerning eye, she did pour libations that gladdened the soul and stirred the senses. Her counsel in the matter of sake was true, and her mirth contagious to all who gathered 'round.
The feast itself was a pageant of delight. The hibachi flames danced like fire sprites, and the chef, with his flashing blade and merry jest, brought forth laughter as easily as he did tender steak and scallop. Each dish was prepared to heavenly standard—rich, flavorful, and fair upon the eye.
In sum, the evening at Umi was a banquet of joy and excellence. Thanks to the labors of Kylee and Meg, whose service was nigh unto royal, our hearts were light and our bellies full. Verily, we shall return, and sing the praises of this house to all who seek fine food...

It all started when we showed up around dinner time on a Saturday night. There were two open Hibachi tables (one of which we eventually were seated at). I drove 45 minutes to try a new Hibachi joint because the kids like to watch them cook. The host immediacy tries to push on Dinning room seating, but the kids wanted to watch them cook. So instead of just seating us, they made us wait 35 minutes before sitting us.
During that time, the kids and I sat at the bar since there were absolutely nobody at the bar (working it, or sitting there). I was just trying to keep my (5yo, and 2yo) entertained. The host comes up, and yells at us for sitting at his empty bar.
Eventually, we get seated, and order our food. My wife and I get white rice, and its soggy and disgusting. Once the chef starts cooking, he gives me another ladies noodles, and has to switch our plates. Then he gives my 2yo chicken to that same lady. He then has to refire the chicken, and serves my 2 yo son RAW CHICKEN.
Not to mention my lobster was so overdone I could of made shoes out of it!
My wife ordered the hibachi vegetables and couldn't eat it because she was so disgusted by the events that happened earlier.
This is the first time I've ever gone to a Hibachi place, and left hungry! It's a real shame because, their shrimp sauce was very good. I can't stand the mouth full of sugar shrimp sauces places like...
Read moreWorst hibachi food I've ever had. They charge as much or more than others but their portions and quality are abysmal. The "salad" that comes with the dinners is just a quarter cup of lettuce; it's bad enough that they fail to add ANY other ingredient, but refusing to at least fill half of the container with lettuce is incredibly cheap, especially considering what they charge for these dinners. As for the dinners themselves, you pay $25-$30+ for a meal that is just shy of a 1/2 cup of veges and a 1/2 cup of protein (chicken, shrimp, beef, etc.) with the rest being about 2+ cups of rice or noodles. I assume they call it noodles and not lo mein because, like the "salad", it is literally just noodles. The flavor of the food itself is not terrible but it's not great either and it definitely does not justify the price. I've eaten here twice because they are one of the few, and the only asian food option that delivers (through doordash for an extra $30-$60) to Blairsville, but never again; enormous waste of money. I've never paid so much for meals (around $40/ per person through doordash) and had no leftovers. Don't waste your money here, go to any other hibachi and you will get better food for the same...
