So this is an experience involving me my wife and are one year old child and we even give them Time we went the first time we went my potato skins were burnt to what I couldn't eat them. So we were discouraged. Went back tonight. So here's how our night went started out with two sodas we got two things of egg rolls and french fries and the breadsticks. They were like the best things on menu by the way. But we ordered our 1 year old son a cheeseburger. Which came out late and burnt shocker right. We told the waiter and she instantly brought it back to make a new one. Keep this in mind she forgot about our dessert and I had to split my soda with my wife because we didn't get any refills nobody came back to the table asking if we needed anything like a drink. Oh really upset me was when I received the bill and it was $74 and they were charging us for the original burger so in reality they never made it right. Hey when I got the manager involved she didn't care about my first experience and she didn't care about this one involving my 1-year-old. At this point my 1-year-old was screaming and highly upset. I asked about the burger and I told her not by choice we thought they were making it. Don't get me started about the dessert that came out with she almost forgot and for nine bucks I couldn't even touch that a scoop of ice cream and some type of sweet pretty much drizzled and so much dressing my wife said you want to try I said no. The only things I enjoyed with the breadsticks and the egg rolls I don't know how a person can sit there and mess up on a burger though me and my wife fell ashamed I worked in many kitchens and my wife has a coronary degree so you can just tell by the way we were so discouraged over this. At that point we just want to leave we paid the bill tiped the waitress. My suggestions I don't know how it is during the day but I can tell you one thing about this cook that's cooking at night here I get it an hour and 30 minutes after the kitchen closes nobody wants to sit there and do a ticket especially after couple minutes before the kitchen closes but hey me and my wife has been there and I've done the tickets every time it's part of the job. Like that but once and twice burnt you're doing it on purpose and they should really investigate this cook. And show a better way to make it right to the waiter to check up on the people at the table and the manager to understand more. A recurring mistake. Honestly I seen Cook get fired for this mistake and kitchen close from inspection. So if anything I will follow up on this tomorrow my name is Shane. I've never been taking advantage like this ever so yeah we're highly upset. Better than that thank you for listening this and let's hope that this gets better. But hey tonight could of endangered me and my wife getting sick or even poison then but mostly endangered are 16 month year old kid that's where it gets real. Me and my wife shrugged off the first experience. But this one is going too far. But on that note I'm let it Go here. I'll follow up tomorrow. But beware this could be you or your 1-year-old kid I repeat do not waste your money at this place until they tell this review is fixed. Just letting you guys know before you pay a high bill and get this disappointment like us. Not even making it right in any way I've never witnessed a place ever. Especially with a 16-month baby who was mostly impacted also his health was endangered. Tempted to give him and made us pay for a burger that's not even cooked which was originally burnt the first time! This is supposed to be a family kind of place. Honestly it doesn't sound or applied to any thing family just just fair warning before discouragement. On that note! Have a good night from your truly. -Shane Steelman Coo , CCO of infinite eye minds CEO of steelstone...
Read moreI don't even know where to begin. We booked my daughter's baby shower there (with a guest list of 20). When we went in for a double-check of the room, they told us we would have half of the larger room because of our small party. We agreed as the room is huge and knew we wouldn't feel cramped. But alas, FIVE days before the event we received a phone call from ALEX (the event coordinator). She informed me that we would have to take the semi-room in the dining/bar area as a large funeral party had just booked the larger room. She did her best to persuade me to agree to half the room (as in partition it off and have customers on the other half). It was bad enough we had very little privacy in the new room but it was noisy and next to the kitchen. There was an additional $100 to book the entire room. I would have happily looked for another place but due to it being so close to the event, we were forced to endure that crappy room. I asked no less than 5 times to have the TV turned off which was ridiculous. Additionally, the fireplace was turned on and it was the end of April. We were all roasting and uncomfortable!
The ONE and only waitress had a bad attitude and was a horrible server. I had to ask her to bring us coffee, tea, and OJ which was included. She told me I had to ask because they "didn't want to waste food". The food was really good which that was the ONLY thing I liked about that place. On the website, it quotes $10.99 per person, but in reality the price is $13.99 and does not include creamed chip beef as stated. There was also a $4.00 charge per mimosa versus the $3.00 on the website. AND they were awful. Additionally, I requested grey table clothes and purple napkins but was given white table clothes and grey/purple napkins. No apology or phone call just two opposing reasons when I complained about this. No one seemed to care how unhappy we were. When I tried to speak to the manager on duty, he was rude and condescending. He had to call ALEX again with my concerns and she basically told me I was being unreasonable.
And as icing on the cake, when we were leaving, I saw that the larger, private room was vacant--and they said the funeral party had cancelled. So we could have easily been moved back to the first room and enjoyed our shower in private, away from every other customer. It would have been nice in someone (anyone) had treated us with respect or listened to our concerns. They took the $12 linen charge off, but left on some random $15 charge. I would never have given the waitress 20% because she sucked. Worst. Money. Spent. This will take a long time to recover from the anger & frustration I feel on what should have been an amazing day!
DO NOT HAVE YOUR EVENT HERE!!! You will regret...
Read moreDrove past it for 20 years. Finally tried it and it was GREAT! I always passed the Whitpain Tavern to and from work and most other places I needed to go to. I always wondered what it was like. I finally tried it a year ago and was very impressed with the variety of the menu, friendliness of the staff and quality of the food. The place is very clean as well.
I was concerned that it would be a very dark place, but the owner has done a number of things to brighten things up in recent years.
Since then I've been there 3 times - all at lunchtime, and despite being part of the typical lunch rush, I was always seated quickly and served reasonably quickly. So far I've had their chicken sandwich, crab cakes and salads. All were delicious and fresh.
They have a bar area with some tables, and 2 or 3 dining rooms, some of which have large windows to let the light in. The bar area is understandably a little dark - especially if you walk in there after being outside on a sunny day.
I've heard they have a good happy hour as well as great dinners. If they are anything like the lunches I've had there, I think most people would be happy there.
I don't consider myself overly picky (although my wife might disagree), but when I go to a restaurant, I expect the place to be clean while not smelling like bleach, the food to look good on the plate, the service to be good, and most importantly the food to taste fresh and delicious. I know how to differentiate fine dining from quick service or pizza shops attempting to be like a full service restaurant. I dine at all types of locations, except for fast food (usually). I also worked in restaurants for years, so I think I have reasonable expectations.
Whitpain Tavern checks all the boxes that add up to making this a great place to go if you are looking for a casual restaurant with fresh meals and local atmosphere. While no place is perfect, including Whitpain Tavern, I think you...
