When I first knew about this new place i just HAD to go check it out. I wanted something warm, with good value and that breakfast food feeling that you can get any time of the day. They certainly delivered all of them and more. As I was lining up, I had the opportunity to meet the owner.
They had a grand opening celebration the day before (Sunday), and he was there to give the prize to one of the winners who attended. I congratulated him on his achievement, complemented his food and we talked briefly. The owner has such a warm personality and also very friendly.
Theyre located right at the entrance of Rodeo 72 in Whittier, so theyre the first thing you will see when you enter the building.
I ordered these items from their menu: Ribeye Steak and Egg (Lunch Sandwich) Smothered Yard Pimp (Loaded Burrito) Ribeye California (Loaded Burrito)
All of them had good balance, cooked very well, and had generous portions. You can taste everything they mention that is in each item and theyre not stingy with the meat either. Unlike other establishments that I have eaten at, It doesnt ooze or drip oil or sauce when you eat it - they put just the right amount and you dont feel bad after eating a whole meal either. Im usually sensitive to overseasoning or excessive oil - but they get it right and its perfect.
This is set in a foot court/food hall where you can see all the offerings of the venue. As far as seating is concerned, its first come first serve and there are places to dine indoor and outdoors as well.
I already have eyes for the next thing when I come back which will be for the Beer Battered Potatoes, the poutine and...
Read moreI truly, genuinely wanted to love this place. Being so close to home, I was hoping it would become a regular stop. Unfortunately, after giving it a couple of tries, I have to say I am extremely disappointed and won't be returning until some major changes are made.
The main issue is the complete and utter lack of flavor in the main dishes. I've tried both their sandwiches and their burritos, and both were startlingly bland. It feels like someone forgot to add salt, pepper, or any kind of seasoning to the filling. Everything just tastes flat and uninspired, making them difficult to finish.
The only saving grace.. is the beer-battered fries. They are perfectly seasoned and genuinely excellent. It's frustrating that the side dish is the culinary highlight.
Beyond the flavorless food, the customer service needs serious attention. Staff seemed preoccupied. If the food is mediocre, the service needs to be exceptional, and sadly, this establishment fails on both counts.
I'm disappointed, but I've made my decision. Until they step up their game, I’ll have to skip this location and start making the drive back to the other egg bread locations. The convenience of being close just isn't worth...
Read moreThis was my first experience eating at Egg Bred. I had high expectations primarily because of all the positive feedback i'd heard.
Unfortunately, my experience was lackluster. To start the cashier seemed uninformed. Initially, we ordered the 'Build-A-Benny' without meat. The cashier was unable to remove the cost of the meat. When asked if they had anything w/o meat she told us no, they don't have meatless options. This is untrue, there's the avocado toast which is meatless. We ordered the avocado toast and the egg bread cheese scramble. The order came out the egg bread cheese scramble was dripping with grease, the brioche bun was soggy with what seemed to be thousand island dressing. The avocado toast with scrambled eggs was tasty until we bit into an eggshell....we deliberated on whether we wanted to provide constructive feedback to the manager. Ultimately we felt like it wouldn't make a difference. The overall feeling of this establishment disorganization and chaos. It is extremely doubtful we'll eat at Egg-bred again. Which is disappointing, we heard such wonderful things...
