LONG post because I'm perplexed at the previous ratings. I'm not sure where to start here, except I am Mexican food's biggest fan, and of El Rodeo, I am not. I am all for mom and pops, young entrepreneurs, and grinders, and I was looking forward to this non-chain place. I attributed the unfinished paint job on the walls as opening quickly, but it should have been my first clue. No ice for your drinks. And maybe it was just what I ordered that stunk..literally. Cheese enchiladas should be straightforward, you would think. Only red or green sauce for topping was available. When the waiter/only person in the place put it in front of me, it smelled so bad that my husband could barely sit next to me. I thought, maybe it's full of goat cheese. But, it smelled so pungent like vinegar. I tried to eat some because I HATE sending food back. I just couldn't stomach it, so I asked the waiter if they used goat cheese. No. So I said, "vinegar?" Yes! They use vinegar in the cheese enchiladas to make the cheese stick together better." Ok.. by this time, my mouth was drawing and I couldn't mask it with hot sauce or onion. I told him I couldn't eat it, and to please remove it, almost a full plate. He said he couldn't refund my money. I told him that was not right of them, but it didn't matter, I couldn't swallow the vinegar. Later he came back and said "they asked do you want anything else." "No, thank you." At this point, I'm aggravated and wanting to gargle with mouthwash. He finally came back and told me "they said to take it off of your bill." I hate that I had this experience here, because I want local shops to make it in our city! And I get the cost of food and people who waste it, especially these days. I even understand that they charged us for chips without being up front about it. But I can't comprehend vinegar in cheese enchiladas that lingered for hours after only a few bites, and then telling me they wouldn't refund my money, well, ok then. I will never return. I do want to say the only person we saw and delt with was nice. I don't leave this as a rant, only as a warning not to go on blindly like we did. I hope they make it, but I'm not sure...
Read moreGreat authentic Mexican food, prepared by actual Mexicans. This area of Texoma is too guilty of either not having authentic-enough Mexican food, or not made/prepared by Mexicans, which can sometimes sacrifice quality and specificity. The food was great, some of the best I've had in Texas. The atmosphere is very adequate for what you'd expect from a Mexican restaurant. The only "negative" is that there's no real table service. You order your food at the counter, like you're getting takeout, sit down, and they bring your food later. But no actual waitress/waiter. (Not sure if that's at this time, if they're short staffed, or if it was a slow time of day and they don't have waiters at this time) Aside from that, you will not go wrong coming here. I know i will definitely come back. The location is pretty centralized, walking distance from the Mall. Parking can be a little limited because of the other establishments around. But it was not a problem at all when i...
Read moreGreat Food is known as one of the best Mexican restaurants in town, and based on reviews—including my own previous 5-star rating—I had high expectations. My dad and I stopped by on Friday, May 16, a little after 6 PM. The restaurant wasn’t busy at the time. We were told we could sit anywhere, which seemed promising.
There were only a few other guests—a family seated at a combined table and a woman with a dog. Two staff members were working the front. The same girl who told us to sit anywhere quickly turned her attention to a pair of new customers, helped them find a table, and took their drink order right away—while we continued waiting without being acknowledged.
After about 10 minutes with no service, we decided to leave. We ended up at another restaurant that was three times as busy, and yet we had drinks and food on the way in less than 30 minutes.
It’s unfortunate that the service didn’t reflect the quality I once experienced. Hopefully, it was...
