I decided to give this place a try during a Saturday lunch slightly after 12pm. When first arriving the atmosphere is great but I began to wonder why a new restaurant that opened literally 2 weeks ago was nearly completely empty. I should have took that as a warning and left but instead I decided to give it a chance. The waitress wasn't very friendly and only stopped by my table the bare minimum of times required to take my order, bring the food, and settle the bill. There was only myself and one other table yet the waitress seemed to be more interested in watching her kids who were running around the restaurant then actually tending to the customers. I had to flag down a separate waiter to assist with missing food items due to the infrequency of my waitress ever checking on my table. I decided to get the Chicharron de Pescado which comes with rice, beans, tortillas, and a special sauce. The food was well plated and looked appetizing yet it was extremely over salted. The special sauce is just pico de gallo, and the rice and beans were fairly plain. Overall the food serving size was adequate yet overpriced for the quality. The total for the single item I ordered and one drink was $32 after tax and an automatic gratuity applied to the bill. I asked the waitress to explain why a gratuity is applied on a table with just a single person but she was hesitant to respond and seemed annoyed that I even asked about it. I will not be giving El Capitan a second chance and I cannot recommend this restaurant to anyone else. There are numerous other better non-TEX mex restaurants that are far more worthy of...
Read moreWe recently visited El Capitan and, while our experience had some positives, it was not without disappointment. Upon arrival, we were pointed to our table by the server, who appeared visibly overwhelmed and did not walk us over, which felt unwelcoming. It was clear she was doing her best under difficult circumstances, but the strain was evident.
As always, the food was exceptional, living up to the high standards we have come to expect. However, the staffing situation left much to be desired. With only two waitstaff managing a busy Saturday crowd, the service struggled. The noise level made communication difficult, resulting in an incorrect order for one of our friends, though we chose not to bring it up. We were patient, understanding the pressure the staff was under, but we waited for drink refills that never came and ultimately had to get up to request our check.
We know El Captain can do better because we’ve experienced their excellent service in the past. I truly hope management considers hiring more staff to support their hardworking team. It would make all the difference in creating the welcoming and attentive experience...
Read moreGreat clean atmosphere, all of our food was fresh and had great flavor. Our server was sweet however we had a mistake with our order, my daughter pointed to the breaded tilapia with a lemon on the menu while ordering, turns out they have two tilapias with lemon, the one that came out was not the one my daughter pointed to on the menu, the female manager with the straight black hair came out to school us on the menu, clearly this was a mistake due to lack of clarification and menu knowledge, it doesn't matter whos mistake it was, mistakes happen, a good business would want their guests to be happy with their meal or even have one, the manager did not offer to replace or fix the order, she just kept telling us we were basically wrong so my daughter just shared a kids meal with her little brother. We sat next to the kitchen and while we continued to eat our food, I heard someone say "At least I'm not picky!" Oh my goodness, are we in 8th grade, anyway, our server maintained her positive, kind attitude and handled the situation better than the manager did. I wish this business the best and would like them to take this as a learning...
