Southern Pancake & Waffle House — Restaurant in Williamsburg

We went here on a Sunday so maybe that has a lot to do with the experience we had. Just stating that up front.

Every place in town was busy... We decided on here because when we called they said they had no wait. That was a dead lie. We got there and waited an entire hour after being told when we approached to get a table that it would be 15 to 20 minutes. After being told on the phone just 2 minutes earlier that there ws NO wait... We watched a stream of people being let in before us that didn't arrive until after us, some larger parties some smaller, most about the same size. Maybe they had reservations but I doubt it. And if they had reservations in that large a quantity, why would they tell someone there was no wait?

And while we were waiting a time share slinger was in a booth outside trying to get us to sign up for a tour for a $20 deposit...

Finalky get in and sit down, it's so noisy in there it's just sensory overload... But super small place so understandable... Finally get the order in, and I will say the staff was amazing. Super quick with table turnover, asked if everything was as it should be etc... They did forget one item but we got it in no time after that. They did overcook my steak and the waitress took it back and had then refire but by the time we got it we were done so they just took it off the bill.

The table was sticky under the condiments so they are a bit lax in moving things to clean the table. They didn't give us any silverware so we sat there for a bit unable to eat.

Overall it was a pretty ugh experience but I think if we had come when they weren't so busy it may have been better.

Food wise the steak sucked... Unseasoned... Thin, overcooked, tough... The biscuits and gravy was great, eggs were good, pancakes were amazing.

When my waitress brought out my tea, the cup looked so dirty and scratched up. I could tell that the cup was old and over used. The tea also tasted like sweet rust water. I should have known it was a terrible sign to get up and go. But instead I gave them a try based on their high 4.5 ratings. I ordered the chicken and waffles for 16.00. I was hesitant because of the price but I thought that these chicken and waffles must be good because of the price. When my waitress brought out my food, there were three giant dark brown steroid looking chicken wings on top of a ordinary size waffle. I proceeded to dig in. I poured the syrup over my waffle and tasted it. It had a faint taste of Dish Water. I thought maybe it’s just in my head. I tasted the wing and it had an surprisingly ok flavor considering how dark they were. I ate one wing and half of the waffle. And boxed the rest up and asked for the check. My bill came to 20.94 (food and drink) plus I left a 5.00 tip in cash so altogether the total was 26.00 roughly. As soon as I left I started feeling sick in my stomach. I finished my route but when I got home, I vomited my food and knew it was that food I ordered from the southern pancake house. I was so disappointed that I spent close to 30 dollars on lunch and their food made me sick for the rest of the day! I will never return to this establishment! I didn’t even give the left...

After many years of good food things have changed here. I and my family been coming here for over 25 years when we visit WBva. Since 2022, I noticed food has changed. On July 11th after 11am, I came there for salmon, grits, eggs and toast. I noticed immediately after receiving my food the waitress came back to ask me how my food was. I had chopped up my salmon patty into my grits. Something wasn't right. It tasted strange n strong and bitter. I normally don't say anything but I left most of the other patty and showed it to the waitress. The menu price is 13.99. When I went up to pay I was met by a gentleman who agreed that the salmon wasn't made right. Here is what he said to me a customer, I will give you 10% off the next time. I already had a 10% coupon for after 9 am with me. I mentioned to him that the salmon was bad. I thought that was strange, he knew it was bad. The salmon was spoiled. I had heartburn all day. The lady at the register said I gave you an additional 10% off but my total was 13.01 and I left a tip, go figure why I did that. After, thinking about this something has changed, I shouldn't of had to pay almost full price for awful food. I will not be back. I wonder if I was white if he would of handled it different. This place use to be packed but I noticed last 3x coming lots of empty tables. I will not be back, my money and respect means...
