Bed Bugs!
We decided on a nice quiet few days in Williamsburg, VA at the Patriots Inn over the Thanksgiving holiday. When we arrived on Wednesday, we were pleasantly surprise how updated the furnishings were, and how clean everything was from the hallways to the guest rooms, even though the buildings seemed older and dated. After unpacking and going out to dinner, we watched a little tv and decided to call it a night around 11:30. When I went to click the light switch on the lamp next to the bed I noticed a small bug of the wall behind the lamp and night table. When I killed it and further examined, it turned out to be a BED BUG. As I stood looking through the paperwork from the front desk for an after hours number to call, another BED BUG crossed over the white bedspread. We were so alarmed that there was no one to call to get us another room, we repacked and dressed and were prepared to stay awake until the office reopened at 7:00 am. It was too cold to sit in our car, and being up almost 24 hours by that time, we didn’t feel comfortable to drive anywhere. When we went to the office at 7:00, Lillian, the front desk attendant, was so upset for us, and, along with Joe, the handyman, found a room in the other building that we could move to. Joe checked it out for us, and we went back to the original room to transfer our belongings in the pouring rain with no assistance. In the meantime, Lillian told us that she had written to and called her ‘higher ups’ and gave them our phone number to contact us. We also asked her why there was no emergency number for any type of incident that might occur that didn’t warrant a 911 emergency call. She couldn’t answer us. After we got some rest in our new room, we checked with Lillian around 2:00 pm and she told us she had not been able to reach any management, nor had she gotten a return phone call. We again asked to be contacted by management, asked again on Friday and still hadn’t been contacted before we left Saturday morning. It is now Tuesday, five days since the incident, I called and still could not speak to a management person, and still have not been called even after leaving our number multiple times. We know BED BUGS can happen in the best of hotels, our exasperation is that no one in management has reached out or shown any kind of caring for the terrible experience we went...
Read moreThis place was an excellent value. For a family with two kids under 5 staying in Williamsburg for several days, this set-up was pretty perfect for us. There were plenty of hotels that offered suites, but this was the only one I found that offered a 2-bedroom suite with a pullout sofa bed. To summarize, the Deluxe Suite had a King Master BR with it's own bathroom with a giant tile shower; a queen guest bedroom; a living room with a pullout queen sofa bed; a kitchen table for 4; a full kitchen with cookware, dishes, glasses, and utensils; and a guest bathroom. Both bedrooms had a TV and the living room had a TV with a DVD-player. If you plan like we did to make a number of your meals in the room, you pretty much just need to bring the food. They have already provided everything else, even a couple dish towels, dish soap, a dishwasher, and a couple tabs of detergent.
They also have a washer and dryer in a common area on each floor that are free, but you will need to bring laundry detergent.
There is a decent outdoor pool with a hot tub on site as well.
Also, check the map where this place is located. It's in a great spot. Busch Gardens and Water Country USA are both less than 15 minutes away. A bunch of restaurants and cafes are within walking distance of the hotel or 1 or 2 minutes drive up or down the street.
One thing that would have been nice to have is an early check-in option. I would have paid extra for it. As it stands, if you arrive before check-in time (4 PM) you can ask the staff to put you on a list for an early check-in. It's free but it's first come, first serve. We arrived several hours early but there were so many other guests in front of us that early check-in only got us in 30 minutes early.
Also, note that the pullout queen sofa bed has a pretty thin mattress, as most sofa beds do. For kids and early teenagers, they won't care. But for young adults and parents, that mattress would probably not be fun for more than one night.
Overall, the suite was fantastic. It was very clean and had everything we needed to get away from home for a week but actually sleep comfortably and not have to break the bank eating out every meal. We will definitely be...
Read moreI have never been scammed in my entire life the way this company scammed me and my husband.
In 2018, my friend introduced us to this resort and told us about a timeshare opportunity. They said it would allow us to go on vacation anywhere in the U.S. for one week per year, and that we would only pay $77 monthly. As new immigrants, we fell for it and thought it would be a great opportunity to take our kids on vacation. So, we started paying and continued until 2020.
Unfortunately, in 2020 my husband got sick and went through a transplant, which affected us financially. We called the company to let them know and asked if we could sell the timeshare, but they refused—even after we explained our situation.
In 2022, we called to use our one week, but they told us our week was in February and that there was no availability. Honestly, who goes on vacation with kids in February? No one ever explained this to us before, and out of ignorance, we were made to sign our lives away.
During the purchase process, we told them we wanted only my husband on the lease. They agreed, but still told me I had to sign as a witness. Without understanding, I signed as well. If I had known then what I know now, I would never have fallen victim to such a fraudulent timeshare scheme.
We made over $3,500 in payments, yet we were never allowed to stay at the property, not even for a single night. My husband eventually stopped making payments due to his health, and the company reported us to collections.
We have lived in this country for 16 years, but our lives feel stuck because of the homeowners association from Patriots Inn. They keep increasing the balance on our credit. When we called to ask for help—at least to charge it off and remove this burden from our credit—they told us we would need to pay $2,950 in HOA fees for a property we have never stayed in.
Please, 🙏 does anyone have any idea how we can get out of this nightmare? I live with regret every day because I was the one who convinced my...
