I stopped here one afternoon about a year ago. It happens to be right across the street from where I went to high school, but it is a recent addition to the neighborhood. Then again I graduated from that school in 1980….
Anyhow, I’ve visited two or three times since and felt compelled to write a review on how good the meals are. There are a lot of good beef stands that I frequent all over the Chicago area and this is one that stands out from the others. The architecture style and exterior decor are cool and definately drew me to it from 75th St.
The best part was when they wait on you and ask it you’d like your beef, or in my case an Italian beef and sausage combo dry, wet or have the it dipped. I chose dipped because I like the au jus and the spices soaking the french bread.
I ordered the combo with mozzarella cheese and giardiniera which definitely makes the sandwich even more special. I hammered it from first bite to last, including the fries which are slightly crunchy on the outside and tender beneath.
It’s not only that this and the burgers are great, but the follow up by the staff after the meal is done are great. Making it not only a great place to eat because of the meal, but because they take more pride in what they create for their customers other than just sending out meals through the drive up window, or if you dine in the restaurant.
It’s nice that they engage their customers from the time you enter the door, until you leave with conversation as well as making sure you’re happy with the experience. Which I’m certain...
Read moreThis place used to be good but now service is awful and the manager is extremely rude. Went there tonight ordered 2 meals with fried pickles and onion rings. They hand me a tiny bag and it obviously wasn’t my food. Was like two hotdogs or some thing. I told them this wasn’t my food and he gave me attitude. Had me pull up to the waiting spot for about 12 minutes. All the while the food they first handed me (that they watched me put my hands in and check) was given to the car right behind me. When my food finally did come out they gave me fries instead of onion rings and fried pickles. Had to wait another 10 minutes for the proper sides to come out… and get this.. not only did he take the fries back to resell, he wouldn’t hand me the sides until I paid an extra $5 that they rang in wrong because they put fries in the pos system. Complete waste of time. Just go to portillos and save yourself from the loss of brain cells, overcharged food, and extreme unprofessionalism.
Edit: with all that waiting the food was ice cold, and I live less than 5 minutes away. Rings and pickles are also half the size as the last...
Read moreI went for late Sunday lunch. I heard this place was really good from one foodie, and another said it was awful. I HAD to go. A bell rings upon entry, the place is empty.. Staff decided to allow myself and guest to wait until they felt it was time to come from the back to wait on us. All adult staff. Huge plus but again not in a hurry to come out. When taking order, they where patient and accommodating to requests. Limited menu. Staff used gloves when prepare your food. Kitchen really clean ( dinning room needs attention). Food out in short time. It was really nice!. *The rings are very Delish. Made in house. *A must get!! Nice selection of comfort desserts....AND.. they will make them alamode!. I actually really like this place. A little more detail to cleaning the tables, but the really clean kitchen sure makes you feel good about what your eating. A definite give it a try place. Good food, and in the end good service. Bill..$23 for Lg parm& garlic Fry, beef sausage combo. Ring and dbl chz& bacon Burger and 2 drinks. REASONABLE!...
