Calico Coffee Bar — Restaurant in Wilmington

I can’t say enough good things about this coffee shop! It’s been open for less than a month, and it’s already become my go-to spot for coffee. I'm not a big coffee fan, and it’s the only coffee I’ll drink now because it’s that good. You can really tell every cup is made with care.

The atmosphere is another standout feature. It’s cozy, welcoming, and perfect for getting work done. I love bringing my homework here because the vibe is so relaxing. They have a corner I always go to and it's become my safe space.

However, what really sets this place apart is the exceptional service. The staff is always friendly, attentive, and genuinely care about making sure every customer has a great experience. They openly acknowledge the challenges that come with being a new business, which is something you don’t often see, making their transparency and commitment to excellence truly admirable. It’s inspiring to see how much heart they put into their work.

I really recommend Calico Coffee for their fun, unique drink combinations - their Marscapone cold foam was absolutely delicious.

However, I do not recommend Calico Coffee for their service and how I was treated as a customer. As the 3rd person waiting in line, the employee working the register spent an extensive amount of time talking to the customers she was checking out at the time. I couldn't hear completely but I believe it was a personal conversation. After waiting in line for about 5 minutes for their conversation to end, I hear the customers say that they don't want to take too long at the register. This is when the cashier turns to look at the line and says "Nah It's okay, there are only 2 people behind you." I was baffled at how rude and unprofessional that comment was seeing as we are just waiting in line as you seemingly are catching up with an old friend while on the clock.

Would love to see some service improvement so I can enjoy more...

I have been counting down the days for this place to open and when the menu dropped, I was beyond excited. Finally, Wilmington has a cardamom honey latte!! Not only is this drink exceptional, the entire menu looks good and I cannot wait to try everything. This place has a wide variety of syrups - some are homemade or sugar free! Great idea to grab a drink on your way to or from Wrightsville Beach or before you head into Mayfaire. Fairly priced, no substitute milk upcharges (!!!), awesome selection, a whole dedicated food station with toaster/microwave, and a calm/cozy atmosphere if you want to read or work.
