Read moreRecently spent a week at the Residence Inn Landfall on a business trip with my dog. It was nice to find a hotel in the area that takes larger dogs, and on check in they explained their dog policies, took my cell number in case there were any issues, and gave me a magnet to stick on my door so housekeeping would know to skip my room with a dog inside. My King Studio suite was a good size for me and the dog. Pretty comfortable sofa, a desk/chair to work, a kitchenette with everything except an oven, and a small dining table. The kitchen was pretty well stocked, down to a roll of paper towels and an individually-sized salt and pepper shaker. The hotel tv was very small and had a sparse selection of channels, but it did allow you to log in and stream from your own personal streaming accounts (netflix, etc.). The hotel is very dated as others have reported in their reviews. It is in need of some updates, particularly kitchen/bath flooring. I thought the one elevator in the center of the hotel was pretty inadequate for a hotel of this size with 30+ rooms on each of three floors. When I made my reservation I noted that I would be bringing a dog. Despite this, and despite requesting a first floor room or a room near stairs to take my dog out upon check in, I was not accommodated, and worse, was given a room in the middle of the second floor away from both stairways with the only option to go outside being the single elevator which is nice to avoid when you have a larger dog that other customers may prefer not to be around. There is a large mowed area behind the hotel where we were directed to walk dogs, however there were no poo bags in the hotel container (thankfully I brought my own), just a trash can. Some guests apparently had no bags, as there was evidence some people were not picking up after their pets. There were also fire ants on the hill, which need to be treated--not ideal for a dog walking area. The hotel has a nice breakfast area, large enough for lots of people, and mixing up their hots somewhat each day. The food was par for the course for a hotel, nothing that exciting. All of the staff I interacted with at this location were helpful and nice, no issues. For some reason they were working on the room (313) above mine (213) while I was there, and during the day there was a lot of noise, sliding furniture around and running loud drills. I took the elevator up to see what was going on, and saw a worker in there with a drying fan. The floors here are pretty thin, so if you aren't on the third floor, you will hear the people above you under normal circumstances let alone construction. I did call the front desk to inquire how long their construction would be going on, to see if I needed to move to another room. The drilling stopped after I called, but the general noise went on for a few days. Again, not sure why you put a guest in a room under a loud construction site, but it is what it is. The location of this hotel is quite good, near a ton of restaurants, shops, Wrightsville Beach, and a Food Lion. All within walking distance or a short drive. For those with dogs, you can walk into the large shopping center adjacent to the hotel and down the sidewalks, all the way to a condo/apartment complex that has more sidewalks (and dog poo bags on poles). It was nice to be able to walk my dog off grounds for a little variety over a week's time. There is also a county arboretum nearby and the city's Summer Rest Trail which are other places you can take your dog to walk, within five minutes drive each. I didn't use the hotel pool, but they have one and a gym, so pretty well outfitted. I got the impression this wasn't a tourist hotel so much as a contractor hotel, as the parking was filled most nights with business trucks. I was told film industry folks. It was quiet enough, though, no issues with other customers. All in all, it's a decent dated hotel that will work for certain circumstances. Not sure I would stay here again if I didn't have my dog, but it served that...
