Honey had a taste for rice and chicken specifically so I looked over a directory the hotel clerk gave us.
Worded Review:
I spotted "Casey's Buffet". I googled it to see what the images and reviews looked like. Reviews made me wanna try them and the images were a mix of ooooo's / ahhhh's and hmmmm idk about this...lol
I called at 7:20 and they said they closed at 8. I said in my mind let's find something else but then found myself entering it in google. It was only 10 min from hotel. With curfew and limited outings due to Covid-19 it seemed that takeout was the best option. I headed there.
When folks say soul food and you've never had a certain place, you doubt that it will be like mommas or grandma.... but "Casey's Buffet" is the kind of soul food that I am used to.
Now starts the real review: We go in to make a takeout plate (it's 745 pm) and the cashier insists that we sit and enjoy the food. I worked in food service so I know about patrons coming in 10 min to closing..lol.
I was reluctant but we took her up on the offer. Everyone was soooooooo nice (the waitress , the owners, the cooks, and cashier). We weren't rushed and the food was hot and fresh until we finished.
My husband and I were so pleased with the food and the pics I am posting are accurate. I must visit again.
The only suggestion would be for the establishment's appearance be worked on as the carpet and seating made me a lil nervous as they both show years of traffic in this business. This is a good and not so good thing. The food and service was so good that this has no bearing on my (the) review.
I ate everything shown in these pictures but they had sooooo much more to choose from. I didn't have room for...
Read more4.5 ⭐ -- Stopped in Casey for the Friday dinner buffet. The interior feels like you're in your grandparent's living room, but I love it. You know it's gonna be good w/ handwritten food placards and wood panel walls.
Fortunately for us, they still had BBQ pork ribs from lunch. The pulled pork was pretty good especially with their house made vinegar BBQ sauce and fresh dinner rolls off a hot pan some young man offered at our table (super kind young buck too). Mac n cheese noodles seemed overcooked and somewhat broken-up/mushy. Pork skins were nice n salty. Hushpuppies, fried chicken, and okra were all great! Fried shrimp was the daily special which had to be ordered through the server. We ordered some expecting 10 pieces of shrimp. A dish of dime sized shrimp with tartar sauce came out. I never witnessed em that petite. They tasted great but noticed through the batter that they hadn't been deveined (probably too small and meticulous). Might not bother most people but we politely declined the rest.
BUT OH MY DAYS their dessert section redeemed any short comings and stole the show. Sorry a picture was taken but I trucked through some blueberry cobbler, peach cobbler, banana pudding, cherry cheesecake, and ice cream from their machine.
Not gourmet by any means but comfort food for an adequate price around $17 per person. Soft drinks are extra. They have daily specials worth looking into, I still feel like we missed out on the lemon pepper catfish nuggets... Overall Casey's will fill you and your family's belly for a decent price. Great if you're craving Southern comfort food or if you have a sweet tooth. You'll find yourself in heaven with plenty of options. Catch a plate if you're...
Read moreAfter hearing about all of the awards this place has won, my boyfriend and I were very excited to go here. We were so disappointed and appalled at the experience we had. We were seated in the back next to the buffet; it was loud, bright, cramped and steamy hot (literally steam from the kitchen). Not a welcoming environment. The buffet was 1/4 the size we expected and super cramped. People are on your heels as you inch forward in line. Some of the food looked home-cooked but in the "come to my uncle Leroy's retirement barbecue at the church" kinda home-cooked. Other foods looked like they came out of a box or can and tasted like it too. We tried a variety of foods and were very underwhelmed at the quality. The so-called "best BBQ in Wilmington" was dry and the ONE "sauce" on the table was pure vinegar. The bins and serving utensils were dirty, the floor was dirty, everything was gross. We felt very uncomfortable and didn't want to eat too much in fear of getting food poisoning. The waitresses were friendly but definitely looked like drug-users. One waitress had her son (maybe 10 years old) carrying plates out from the kitchen! After being disgusted by the conditions and disappointed by the food, we absolutely died inside when we had to pay $30 for our 2 dinners.THIRTY DOLLARS!!! Who in their right mind would pay that much for that experience?! Who is writing these great reviews and voting for these awards?! I suppose the trashy slobs that filled the restaurant. We rarely go to buffets but we would have had a much better experience going to Golden Corral. I wish we could rewind time and skip ever going there. I feel greasy. Needless to say, we are never ever ever going back to...
