We've been getting food from k38 for many years and it's long been one of our favorite places. It's a bit overpriced but one assumes that the heightened price equates to heightened quality especially when we're essentially talking about beans and rice. That perspective was tainted recently when we received a burrito with a box staple in it — found only when biting down on the burrito.
I understand that mistakes can happen especially when a restaurant are as busy as they are most of the time. I do, however, have a hard time imagining how (what appears to be) a staple from a cardboard box can go from that box, into whatever food was inside the box (presumably), into a container for said food, then go from that container and into a burrito without the cook(s) or manager(s) noticing ... unless there's a huge attention/care/possible sanitation deficiency happening.
But whatever, crazy things do happen. I just don't see myself willing to go back and spend the money when my vision of what's going on in the kitchen is so tragic. The manager I spoke to said he would try to take care of the bill which was a fine gesture (I'm much more interested in them making sure nothing like this ever happens again, though, because someone could have been seriously injured.) but he said because it was ordered through a 3rd party delivery service there may be some trouble. Understandable. He took my email as a backup plan but it's several weeks later and I've not received a refund or an email so I have to assume there was little interest in following through in the gesture. I wasn't really holding my breath and, like I said, I'm much more interested in avoid any future injuries and hoping that they, at least, slow down and be more careful. If a big staple like this can slip through, one has to assume there's some cleanliness that's slipping...
Read moreWe have been loyal fans of K38 for years. Throughout my pregnancy, Monday night Baja fish tacos were my ultimate craving — a true highlight of those months. In fact, I was enjoying K38 the night I went into labor, and it’s a special memory we’ve always cherished.
Because of that, we chose K38 to celebrate our daughter’s first birthday this week, wanting to honor the tradition. Unfortunately, I’m sad to say it was the worst restaurant experience I’ve had in a very long time.
First, I want to note that our server was wonderful — kind, apologetic, and doing her best to navigate the situation. None of this was her fault.
However, when I ordered my usual two grilled fish tacos on corn tortillas (no cheese) — something I’ve ordered countless times — our server informed us that as of that day, K38 would no longer allow substitutions for the Monday night fish tacos, meaning, no grilled fish.
Disappointed but understanding, I ordered another entrée that I knew was gluten free, again requesting no cheese. When the dish arrived, it had cheese all over it. I had to send it back, and by that point, feeling frustrated, I ordered the simplest thing I could think of — two ground beef tacos. They were just okay — nothing remarkable — and yet we were shocked to find they cost $16.
Over the years, what made K38 special was their willingness to accommodate allergies and dietary needs with care. That is no longer the case. It seems that flexibility and attention to customer needs have fallen by the wayside.
For anyone who is gluten-free, dairy-free, or has dietary restrictions, be warned: Monday Baja taco nights are no longer what they once were.
It truly breaks my heart to write this, but after years of loyalty, tonight left us feeling disappointed and unappreciated. We’ll be taking a break from K38 — at...
Read moreFirst time visiting K-38 Baja Grill after reading many positive reviews. Chose to sit outside for our Sunday dinner since the weather was perfect.
The outside sitting area (deck) was small but accomodating. Only recommendation would be to possibly expand the outside deck sitting area, somehow in the future, to offer more tables rather than side "bar-style" seats around the centered, 1 bench table = 3.5 ☆☆☆
Food - I ordered one of the house specialties...the Santa Fe Tuna Roll, which infuses Latin & Asian flavors & presentation. Char-Grilled Yellowfin Tuna, Black Bean Puree, Roasted Red Pepper, Spinach, Monterey Jack & Ginger Wasabi. Very good & clean. My wife ordered the Mexican Street Corn & devoured it, however the sweet corn cake was not what we were expecting with the flour-based risener (almost like pancake mix) compared to most sweet corn cakes that are cornbread-based & we did send this item back. The Wannabe margaritas were on point & the highlight of the evening. I would go back just for these.= 4 ☆☆☆☆
Service - Our server (Liz) was friendly, knowledgable and respectful. Her frequency & attention to service was the only room for inprovement that I may say is an area of opportunity. My large cup of water went empty twice along with my wife & I's margaritas before there was acknowledgement. Follow up has always been a large factor of how well I score service & how well I tip. = 3 ☆☆☆
Overall Summary. I'll come back for the food. It was good and the menu offered up quite a few options of other entrees I would love to try. I just hope to feel like a "valued" customer rather than a simple patron, next time around. APPROPRIATE...
