Round 2 at Kickback Jack's this past Sunday. My family all wanted something different, we were in close proximity to KBJ Wilmington and I knew they had a wide variety of offerings.
FOOD: Spinach and Artichoke Dip; Lasagna Pizza; Order of 10, Grilled Sweet Thai Chili Wings with bleu cheese dipping sauce. The Lasagna Pizza is a new creation of KBJ's and our youngest son was willing to try it out. He loved everything about the pizza, but removed the meatballs since he rarely eats red meat. His biggest compliment about the pizza was how wonderful the Ricotta cheese blend was and how good the dough was. Nice work, KBJ...he loved it! Next was the grilled Sweet Thai Chili Wings that I ordered along with a side of bleu cheese dipping sauce. Absolutely incredible wings!!! These have now become one of my top, memorable wings I've tasted throughout life. These things are sweet and savory and tangy and plump and .......the list goes on. I love how KBJ flame-grills these things, offering that beautiful smokey flavor throughout. They are large, plump, decadent and sexy. Quite frankly, these may actually be the best wings I've ever had. Not kidding. Lastly, the Spinach and Artichoke Dip. There was an abundance of this hot, gooey, cheesy bowl of greenage and it was tasty. I especially enjoyed the fresh-grated parmesan cheese over it and the flavors were on point. The only true shortfall of this appetizer, was the lack of chips included with a heaping amount of dip. We loaded every chip up with a pile of dip, but still had half of the dip left over once the chips were gone. With this being said, we had to ask for more chips or waste the remainder of such a good appetizer. SCORE: 4.7 STARS!!
SERVICE: When we entered KBJ's on a Sunday afternoon, we expected a larger social gathering for the NFL Games and that was cool for us. We were seated immediately and greeted by Courtney, shortly after. Courtney was masked up, pleasant and prompt on meal check-in's throughout. She highly recommended the fried wings, although I was committed to grilled, but she almost persuaded me. Throughout the course of our lunch, she met expectations and did a wonderful job. However...with that being said, there was one negative I had to bring to her attention, which she quickly ratified. Please be aware if you dine at KBJ's, if you ask for more chips with your dip, you can expect to see a $3.99 charge on your bill for a "bag of chips"! Uhhhh...what? I was never once informed there would be an additional charge for a handful of tortilla chips to help supplement the spinach and artichoke dip. I believe this is where the service suffered a red stain. If there are an insufficient amount of chips to enjoy with an appetizer dip, you then secretly try to slide a $3.99 charge in there, in hopes of maximizing profits without the customer being informed? Hmmmmm??? Not really cool. Good thing I caught the secret charge, asked for it to kindly be removed and then ratified moments later. C'mon KBJ's....I truly hope this was an anomaly? SCORE: 2.8 STARS!!
OVERALL SCORE: AMAZING Sports Bar food, some of the best wings I have ever had and consistent with their execution in food. But for the second time at KBJ's there are some fine details that need to be ironed if they're looking to provide extraordinarily exceptional service...not just good or average. SCORE: 3.9 STARS!! (generous bc of...
Read moreMy wife and I were in the area today to visit with our son. He is in his last semester at UNCW. We were looking for something to eat in the area that we had not tried yet during his time in Wilmington. We have heard several good reviews about Kickback Jack's so we decided to give them a try.
When entering the restaurant everything was very clean and we were greeted by a friendly staff. They were not super busy so we were seated quickly, shortly there-after we placed our order. We had ordered Firecracker Shrimp, New Orleans Pasta, Combo Cajun Alfredo Pasta, Cajun Alfredo Pasta with Grilled Shrimp, and we also had 2 Garden Salads. After about 10 minutes the Firecracker Shrimp came out for our appetizer, they were fried perfectly and not overly sauced I would describe the spiciness about a medium heat and were very good.
I had expected our salads to come out soon after we were done with the appetizer but this was not the case. About 25-30 minutes later our server noticed that we had not received anything else from our order, she quickly went to the kitchen and retrieved our salads. She was very apologetic for the delay and said their kitchen had been backed up. Personally I did not agree with this because several other customers that had been seated after us had already received their food orders.
Soon after the salads came another person with the staff stopped by to again apologize for the delay and offered us a complimentary appetizer. I had politely declined the appetizer because we were ready for our entree's. I asked the server if we could receive a discount of some type since we declined the complimentary appetizer. She said that she would check and see what they could do, a couple minutes later the manager on duty came to the table again very apologetic for the delay he said it had been 42 minutes since we had placed our order and that it should not have taken that long. He said he would correct our dinner bill to remove the charges for the appetizer and our salads. I thought this was fair enough and a few minutes later the entree's came out.
I was very pleased with the portion size of the pasta dishes, we could not eat it all and had to get boxes for the leftovers. All 3 dishes were well seasoned and not spicy at all; they had just the right amount of sauce on them for us. When the server brought our bill to us we found that the manager decided to go above what he told me at the table earlier. He gave us 50 percent off of the total bill which I felt was very generous.
Overall I'm totally pleased with the service we received. After the delay with the entree's I feel the staff did everything they could have done to resolve the situation for us. I would definitely give Kickback Jack's another try when back in the area. My props go out to the management for making things right...

My family and I visited Kickback Jack's earlier this evening, and overall, we had a very enjoyable experience, especially given it was Kentucky Derby night!
We started with the bacon cheese fries, which were absolutely amazing – a definite highlight of the meal. For our main courses, my wife thoroughly enjoyed her three-cheese flatbread pizza, and my son was equally happy with his sausage and pepperoni flatbread. I opted for the firehouse burger, ordered medium. While it was cooked just a touch under medium for my preference, it wasn't so underdone that I couldn't enjoy the flavorful patty and toppings.
We were all very pleased with our food. However, the real standout of our visit was our server, Leza. She was an absolute delight – attentive without being intrusive, and always seemed to anticipate our needs. We never had to wait for drink refills or extra condiments. Beyond her efficiency, Leza was also a genuine pleasure to chat with, adding to the positive atmosphere of our meal.
Speaking of atmosphere, Kickback Jack's provided a casual and comfortable setting, exactly what you'd hope for in a sports bar. Despite it being Kentucky Derby night, the noise level was comfortable, allowing for easy conversation while still enjoying the excitement of the races, which were thankfully shown on several of the TVs.
While my burger could have been cooked for just a tad longer, the delicious food, coupled with the exceptional service from Leza and the enjoyable atmosphere, made for a great evening. We'll...
