Title: A Hidden Gem on College Road – A Flavorful Stop on Our Beach Getaway!
Our family of five recently traveled from Charlotte to Carolina Beach for a three-day getaway, soaking in the sun, the ocean breeze, and the much-needed break from our daily routines. After a full day of fun in the sand and waves, we were craving something that reminded us of home – something spicy, comforting, and authentically Indian.
That’s when we stumbled upon Indian Flavors on College Road in Wilmington, and let me just say – what a gem!
From the moment we walked in, we were greeted with genuine warmth by Harsh Patel, the owner himself. There’s something special about being welcomed like family when you’re far from home, and Harsh set the tone for an unforgettable meal. Our server, Shivam, was equally fantastic – friendly, attentive, and full of great recommendations.
We kicked off our meal with the Chicken Triple Rice – a dish packed with flavor and just the right level of spice. Each bite had that street-style flair we’ve missed from Mumbai nights. Then came the Bhel Puri and Pani Puri, which were absolute hits with everyone, especially the kids! Fresh, crunchy, tangy, and full of flavor – they transported us straight to the lanes of Chowpatty.
But the true showstopper? The Desi Chicken. Tender, spicy, and rich with traditional Indian masala – it’s the kind of dish that demands silence while you eat because everyone’s too busy enjoying every bite. It’s easily one of the best Indian chicken dishes I’ve had in a long time.
By the end of the meal, we were full, happy, and already planning a return visit the next time we’re in town. If you’re in or around Wilmington, Indian Flavors is an absolute must-visit. Whether you're a local or just passing through on a beach trip like we were, trust me – your taste buds will thank you.
Thank you, Harsh and Shivam, for a meal full of love, spice,...
Read moreMy friend and I had lunch here the other day. I've been wanting to try it, as I read some good reviews.
I ordered the Punjabi Saagwala curry with chicken. It had leafy greens and onions. I ordered it medium spicy, which was delicious. The chicken was so tender.
My friend ordered the Vindaloo curry, also with chicken. It had potatoes. I had a taste and it was also delicious.
Both came with white rice. It was a small portion and not enough to go with my leftovers.
Our waiter was the only one that took care of several tables. We did meet the owner, who asked if we enjoyed our food.
We found the dining room to be very warm. When I went to the restroom, there was a noticeable difference - much cooler there and near the bar area (nice bar!).
Their prices are on the high side compared to other Indian restaurants I've been to. Some of the appetizers are on the pricy side. With the price for lunch ($15 plus $4 to add the chicken), we didn't want to order an appetizer. That would have turned into an expensive lunch. I did see their dinner Thali menu (served from 4pm to 10pm), which looks to be a much better deal than ordering a la carte. That may be the best option on a possible...
Read moreAtmosphere – The temperature was comfortable, but the place needed better ventilation. A mix of odors lingered, likely because the HVAC unit was off. I didn't use the bathroom, so I can't speak on its ventilation. The incense was not a great idea; an ozone generator might work better for odor control if needed.
Staff – Friendly and polite, which added to the experience.
Cleanliness – All surfaces, silverware, and dishes were in good serving order. No issues here.
Food – The menu is extensive, with many unfamiliar dishes that could be pricey to explore unless on a buffet. We arrived early, and it was obvious that the appetizer included something fried or prepared the day before. The Biryani tasted good, but we’ve had better when prepared Hyderabadi style.
Price – Generally in line with expectations, but the $25 Biryani felt overpriced for the market. Their system automatically adds an 18% tip, then flips the screen for an extra tip prompt, which feels like a guilt trip.
They’re new and deserve a second chance, so I’ll revisit in a few months and update...
