Great food and atmosphere. I am a frequent customer (4 times in the past week with my family lol). I've only had one disappointing experience. This past Wednesday (I think), when I was there, the special was that all burgers were $10. My son usually gets the build your own, but on this day, the waiter managed to convince us to get the kids burger meal (which essentially was the same thing but at a higher price than the special), which didn't make sense but I figured the price would be adjusted at bill time. It wasn't. I asked the hostess (after 4pm) about it, and she said the kids' price is more. I said I could have purchased the special and got the exact same thing. She said there's nothing she can do about it (in a polite way). To me, it's not about the price but the principal. There were a few more fumbles during my talk with the hostess because I had planned to go back for dinner. However, because of the responses, I departed without causing an issue, and I changed plans and opted to eat dinner with my family at the Rail Wine Bar and Grille instead. The next day, because I was still disappointed, I decided to take my family across the street from Tonic and try the Italian restaurant (Cafe Mezzanotte) that we always see while eating at Tonic. We had never gone there before, but because of the experience from the previous day, we decided to try something new. I must admit, going across the street was worth it, and the food was superb. Anyway, I am not bashing Tonic because the food and staff at Tonic are wonderful. I just had a bad experience that day. So, I do encourage you to try Tonic. I am kind of thankful because..... if I didn't have a gripe with Tonic, I would never have tried the restaurant across the street. UPDATE: This update is long overdue. I apologize for the delay. Tonic management did make up for the incident and it was resolved after I identified that the review writer was me. Again, I love Tonic and I have continued to eat there with my family (even last night). My bills are always above $200 because I eat there with my wife and kids/s. I have also eaten at their sister restaurant in Maryland (Kitty Knight/ Deep Blue). Great restaurant and food and I still encourage people to eat at...
Read moreAlright, get ready for a review that'll make your mouth water and your fingers itch to make a reservation! Listen up, fellow foodies and romance seekers! My recent expedition to Tonic Seafood & Steak in Wilmington was nothing short of spectacular. Picture this: a balmy evening, stars peeking out, and my amazing girlfriend by my side as we dined al fresco in an atmosphere that whispered sweet nothings. Let's talk food, shall we? I dove headfirst into the duck, and oh boy, the flavor was an absolute symphony! My girlfriend, meanwhile, was in pure bliss with her crab cake. Seriously, every bite was a testament to culinary artistry. And the drinks? Forget about it! They were so good, they practically danced on our tongues. Now, let's give a standing ovation to the service. Our waiter was a true maestro! Not only was he a wizard with the extensive whiskey, bourbon, and scotch selections, but he even concocted a custom cocktail for my girlfriend that was spot-on! Talk about going the extra mile! We kicked things off with the calamari and beef short rib egg rolls – a delightful duet of textures and tastes that set the stage for the main event. Yes, it's a tad on the pricier side, but trust me on this one, every single penny was an investment in an unforgettable experience. Fast forward, and I've already played restaurant matchmaker, recommending Tonic to one of my best friends. Guess what? They were absolutely blown away and showered me with gratitude for the tip! So, if you're looking for a top-notch dining experience in Wilmington, a place that nails the food, the drinks, the service, and sets the perfect romantic mood, then Tonic Seafood & Steak is your spot. Trust me, your taste buds (and your date!) will thank you. I'm already counting down the days until...
Read moreWas in Wilmington for work, and went for a business dinner. One person ordered the salmon, two people ordered the half chicken, and I ordered a filet. The salmon was plated beautifully, and must have been amazing because the person who ordered it ate every single morsel and all of their sides, leaving an absolutely clean plate. This personal also ordered a vegan soup beforehand that had the consistency of butternut squash plus sunflower seeds. One of the person's ordered the fried calamari which was also gluten free, and allowed me to taste it. It was extremely fresh, as the calamari was not rubbery at all, and the Aeoli that was served with it added to the flavor. The two persons who ordered the half chicken left nothing on their plates but bones afterward, so it must have been amazing. When it came to the table, the skin was a lovely roasted brown color. Now for the filet...it was a lovely cut of meat, and cooked to perfection, and was served with fresh and luscious mashed potatoes. I ate every bite, leaving nothing but a little bit of the compound butter which dressed the steak. The service was excellent. Empty dishes were cleared in a timely manner, and our server refilled our water regularly. Now, for the price portion of the review-- Although this restaurant had higher prices than most restaurants of similar ilk, I felt that the pricing was appropriate for the quality of the food and the service provided. The filet was 38, half chicken was 28 or 29, the salmon was around 29 or so, salads on the average were around 11 to 14, soups were 9 and up, and the sides averaged between 7 all the way up to 20 (for additional shrimp for one's entree) The meal was enjoyable and the atmosphere was pleasant. Thanks, Tonic, for a great...
