I ordered the basil leaf chicken “with extra hot peppers,” fresh spring rolls (says $5 for two), and a coke.
First, the coke was flat.
Then the waitress brought me three fried spring rolls which were each, no joke, the size of my right pinky finger (and I have relatively skinny fingers). I thought “whatever, I’m not going to push the issue.” The skins were fine but the filling was mushy. The dipping sauce wasn’t anything special, just Thai chili sauce from a bottle.
The real food came out. I looked at it and saw ONE shred of a Thai chili and NO BASIL. I told the waitress “Umm, I ordered the basil leaf chicken.” She replied “that’s the basil chicken.” I said “where’s the basil?” She replied “Oh, it’s liquid basil.”
At that moment it took every ounce of patience and self control to not flip the table and throw a fit. The waitress in An Asian restaurant just told an Asian customer (3/4 Chinese, 1/4 Khmer) that the “basil chicken” has “liquid basil” in it. That’s like telling someone “Oh, the bacon isn’t missing from your BLT, they toasted the bread on the same griddle they used to cook the bacon this morning.”
I expected an apology, an offer to swap out the dish, or an offer to reduce the price. Instead, the waitress turned around and started walking away.
Having seen only one piece of a chili after requesting they add extra hot peppers, I asked for some hot peppers. The waitress brought me a small dish with hot chili oil. She put it down, I looked at it, and looked at her with an expression of disbelief. She half hesitated, turned around, and walked away.
It was apparently clear that she didn’t care what I was served. I did not complain because I was working at the time. I just decided I’d share my experience instead. I gave them two stars because the food was edible...at least...
Read moreThe food here is bland and just not good at all. I got the imperial dinner #1. Includes steak, chicken and shrimp with fried rice, grilled veggies, soup and salad. $19 entree. The shrimp was seriously the only thing that was good and even if was nothing to rave about. The steak was over cooked and bland. The chicken is little jiblets and dry. The rice had no flavor and I am a huge vegetable eater and only ate one piece cause it was so gross. I swear the yum yum is watered down because it also had no flavor. The soup didn't even have salt in it. Seriously it was honest to God that bad. The salad was good but I mean how hard is lettuce and ranch because that is seriously all it is and it's a tiny tiny little cup of salad. I also ordered spring rolls which were mushy. Three spring rolls the size of my pinky for $7. My husband got the same imperial dinner for $19 and agreed that it was horrible. He also got some sushi and said it was warm and just not good. I also had my son and his friend with me so our meal was $85. I'll never ever go back. Food is much better at Tokyo Express in Rocky Mount and each entree is the same serving size and less than $10. Ichibans in Rocky Mount is about the same cost and ten times better and you get the show with dinner. Seriously save your money. I don't know how this place is open. So many people have said the same thing about how bland the food is. This was a terrible example of...
Read moreYesterday was my second time eating at this restaurant and on both trips, the female Manager was very nasty. The first time I had Sushi only and last night I decided to order one roll and Panang Chicken. When the waitress brought the plate to my table, it was plated very messy, smelled badly and it was extremely spicy. We attempted to get the Manager's attention but she ignored us. Then, in spanish, I got the attention of one of the Hispanic employees walking by to get the waitress to come over, because she hadn't checked on us, either. After I explained to the waitress why I didn't like the entree, she told the Manager and they offered a $5 roll since I didn't want them to re-cook the entree. Then, the Manager sent the bill with the full price of the Panang Chicken. We began to argue with the waitress about having to pay full price for food I did not eat! In addition, the waitress threw the food away. We ended up paying $5 for the entree. I will NEVER go back and eat at that restaurant. I am thankful Varee Restaurant is around the corner. Regardless of how many positive reviews posted, I had two separate negative experiences at this restaurant; I firmly believe the manager doesn't care about the customers and their experience, she only cares about getting your money...and, that alone, is poor...
