Porfirios Mexican Grill — Restaurant in Wilson

My husband and I went into this place hoping to really love it and left very disappointed. The atmosphere and decor was so nice and lively and our waiter was very attentive even though he seemed to be the only waiter that night. We ordered the CEVICHE TUNA to start with which was so yummy! For our entrees I got the chicken mole and he ended up going with the FISH VERACRUZ which was supposed come with Salmon and shrimp with tomatoes, green olives, capers.Served with white rice and whole sweet plantains. The waiter informed us they were out of salmon but that they could substitute with tilapia which was no biggie. Our food came out pretty quickly and once our food was set in front of us, my husband noticed pretty quickly his dish was not as described on the menu. It was literally just a piece of tilapia with Veracruz sauce and olives tossed on top. No shrimp, no capers and no plantains. I grabbed the waiter and he took the plate saying he would get it fixed. Came back with the same plate and said he would just bring the side of shrimp. Im sure that was one of the managers or cooks decisions in the back but just didn’t fix the dish itself. Mole was okay but chicken was mostly just bones. With the amount of good Mexican restaurant choices, some changes need to be made to step it up. Overall...

Just want to start it off by saying this was the absolute best authentic Mexican food I've ever had. Our waiter Eric was amazing. Always smiling and very kind. A very clean restaurant with good music. Now the food.....maaaannnn when I tell you everything was spot on from the sweet tea, the entrée all the way down to the trés leche cake. I'm ready to go to sleep. Everything was moist and full of flavor. If you haven't been and you're craving Mexican food go here. The Pollo Porfrio Camerones stole the show for sure. It's a quarter chicken with a grilled shrimp skewer, Mexican rice, a delicious sauce (didn't ask what it was but it was scrumptious) and some beans with bacon (I don't eat pork so those went back) and were replaced with refried beans. I don't even eat refried beans but these joints were so good I couldn't put the spoon down. My wife was looking at me like I've never seen you eat like this. I was like I know...it's just that good. Definitely going to be returning for more. No other Mexican restaurant can compare. Thank you!!!

Side note it is very reasonably priced and the chips and salsa were a smash as well....

For me this is the best Mexican Food experience I've had. You guys are fortunate to have a diamond in the rough in this small town. The presentation, passion and love that was in my food experience was exceptional in a land of average mediocre individuals. EL Chapo Margaritas and a Hennessy Colada, Chicken Tamales, Tacos, 1/4 Chicken , Rice ,sweet plantains topped off with an exquisite slice of tres leches cake. Wow! The customer service and hospitality was a step above. Thank you for making this an amazing experience. It was truly an art form, keep up the smart work and I hope to see you having a location on the Vegas Strip or someplace where you guys can have way more volume and opportunities to showcase your gifts and abilities. I'll come back to this town just to stop by.

11/21/24 Back again!! This time we had the steak (ribeye) & shrimp kabob w/ Sweet plantains and rice. And a mango margarita. Deliciousness!! Flavored to perfection, no need for condiments for it would be an insult...
