Hidden in a dying mall, this bbq place is not to be missed. The girl who took my order was very pleasant and helpful guiding me through my own indecisiveness and brought my food to me. Drinks are out of a cooler :( While I understand the convenience I would have loved ice tea or something other than bottled water as a no sugar option. But let’s talk about the food. The chicken serving was very moist! And the brisket was as well. Flavor, I wasn’t blown away til I took advantage of the sweet and spicy sauce- nice kick! The pickled items, while nice didn’t really add much for me. The bun with the meal was fresh and soft and I piled what there was for meats in there to make two mini sandwiches. I recommend the kicked up beans but I found the green beans lacking(flavor is mostly just pepper) I will be back to try the Mac and cheese and perhaps a different meet. (The locals really talk this place up btw! But it was fairly quiet for 540) Lastly, would love to see that sauce bottled and sold in the space for purchase! ❤️

If you're looking for very lightly smoked, moist and tender barbeque this place might be right for you. We tried the ribs and pulled pork complimented by beans, mac & cheese and cole slaw. Meat was good, sides were okay. Was surprised they only had two sauce options with tiny servings provided in pre filled little containers. Don't be surprised if you have to ask for more. Comfortable seating in a strip mall just off highway 61 in Winona.

I had some friends bring me some of their food. I really loved the Rack of Ribs, and I especially liked the flavor of the bark on them. I also was able to have some of the Brisket, which was also very good, even my wife liked it. In addition to the meat, I had their Bacon Mac n Cheese and beans. Both of those sides were fantastic. Pretty good sauces too. I highly recommend stopping in. I know I will stop the next time I am in Winona.

the smoker stopped smoking earlier in the day on the day we chose to go so they didn't have any brisket available but we were able to get ribs, pulled pork and smoked chicken. the beans were ok but not my favorite but the tangy and sweet bbq sauce was amazingly good. I think it's kind of strange to add 3% fee to the total bill when paying with a card instead of cash. we'll definitely go back for the ribs and to try the brisket though. all in all I pretty decent amount of food and great tasting for the price. Also we went around 5-530pm so it wasn't an upset that they were out of...

To put this in context, my wife and I have been known to drive to Kansas City for the day, on more than one occasion, just to have proper ribs. With that in mind, I will say that backwater ribs are excellent. I feel lucky to live in a town that has such an excellent barbecue joint. Go there. Get ribs.

I would say that the atmosphere is nice. It’s nothing spectacular but it’s clean and modern. The bottom line is I don’t care. I care about the ribs. I have eaten in some of the worst places you can imagine because they have great ribs. This is way nicer than most joints, but go...
