Was in town visiting my daughter of the Labor Day weekend. We stopped in around 11:30am for lunch. When we walked in we were not greeted, started to look for our own table when the host noticed and decided to do his job. Our server was super friendly…that was the only positive part of the visit. There were 5 of us, 3 ordered side salads with our meals and the same 3 had shrimp. 2 shrimp stir fry and 1 butterfly shrimp dinner. The salads came out drenched with water and my mom’s had a metal string from a scrubby in it!! Thank God she seen it before eating that bite! When our meals came out, the stir fry was made with shrimp that had the tails on still…weird! But the biggest shock was when the butterfly fried shrimp dinner came out with cold, tail on cocktail shrimp. Yuck!!! When we raised our concerns…we initially were told we’d be compensated $1.49….WHAT?! I asked to talk with a supervisor or manager and was told that they were on break…at 12:15pm…during that bulk of lunch service. They took my number and said that the supervisor or manager would call…never called. Also weird from the visit…the guy working the dishroom was running around with plastic grocery bags tied to his feet…it was the oddest thing and I’m sure incredibly slippery and unsafe. 2 days passed without a call so I tried calling them. It was Thursday morning at about 8:30. Asked to talk with a manager or the owner…was told they weren’t there. They then asked for my phone number so that they could have them call when they got it. I said they already have it and didn’t call. I asked if I could get the owner’s contact information and I was told no as they didn’t have it. I’ve since contacted MDH to report my concerns. Being a licensed food service manager in the state, I know what is acceptable and what isn’t and this place is a giant lawsuit waiting to happen. We will never go back and I encourage you to consider an alternative...
Read moreDon't waste your time. We were told there would be a 10 minute wait while they cleaned our table. 10 minutes later they sat us at a table that was sticky and had crumbs and hair on it. My mom ordered the chicken dumpling soup. The dumplings were mush and it was not good. Husband ordered the reuben with a side salad. They brought the wrong dressing for the salad. The reuben came on rye bread as it should, but no sauerkraut. Told the server the kraut was missing. He took it back, then came out and said, "they're putting your sauerkraut on your sandwich now." Then another server delivered a new sandwich. This one on white toast. Again with no sauerkraut. He again sent it back again saying there's still no sauerkraut and now it'son white bread. This time they said they were out of sauerkraut, put the sandwich in front of him and walked away. So I said, "Then it's not a reuben, which is what we ordered." So they came asked if he wanted to order something else. My husband said no because the rest of us were done eating. So they took the sandwich away! My husband had to practically tackle the server to get the white bread ham and cheese sandwich he didn't order so he could at least eat something. Then they brought us the bill, and charged us full price for the reuben. Which isn't a reuben if it's on white bread with no thousand island and no sauerkraut. My husband said "aren't you going to at least comp the reuben?" The server talked to the manager and they gave us the "kid discount" of 10% off just that sandwich. Are you kidding me? The french fries were good. My dad would say the taco salad was decent. Overall a really bad dining experience with horrible...
Read moreOnce upon a time, Winona Family Restaurant was amazing. I was a student here up till 2019 and went several times a week. I recently moved back and was excited to come here and enjoy the breakfast. Well I was pretty disappointed. I got the steak omelette. It came out cold, with no toppings, and with 2 bites of hash browns. On top of that, I paid a pretty hefty price for a drink that never got refilled. Jump forward to a few days ago, I take my fiancée there in the hopes that maybe it was just an off day for the diner. Well I can now confirm it wasn’t just an isolated incident. Again had bad service, we sat there for 15 minutes before someone came and asked what we wanted to drink and give us menus. He then asked right away if we already knew what we wanted to eat after only giving us the menu like 15 seconds before. And was mad that we didn’t know. Comes back another 15 minutes later with our drinks and asked what we’d like to eat. We both decide to order lunch instead of breakfast. I got the Winona Burger, and it was awful. I mean it was a few pieces of chopped romaine lettuce (for a salad) and barely melted cheese. Hardly any fries. Plus our appetizer came out after our meals did. I will give another chance if they even actually respond to this review. It’s pretty disappointing to have such a fond memory destroyed because they either gave up or just have a bad team of people...
