Captain Caribbean Cafe — Restaurant in Winter Park

I was very skeptical. Very. With all 5 star reviews figured it was just fluff. Nope. Couldn't be more wrong. What a hidden gem we stumbled upon!! We seriously almost passed it since the area just pops up off the road out of nowhere.

This is a great little hangout with several food trucks, tables, and music. It's a whole vibe. Will be bringing the rest of the family for sure.

I was seriously craving conch fritters, knew I wouldn't find any like my grammy used to make but still thought I'd give the ones here a try. Not only did we try the fritters, we had the fried shrimp, grouper fingers, curry rice, pickled mango salad and the baileys chocolate mousse cake. We ordered rum cake but received red velvet. Was disappointed but the cake was good and still worthy of 5 stars overall. Did I mention they gave us 2?? Um hmm. You heard me.

Great sized portions. For two adults we had more than enough food to take some home for less than $40. The pickled mango salad is the perfect addition. It's fresh, light, flavorful and really compliments the fried items. The mango chutney is a great pairing with the rice and coconut shrimp. Just adds another layer. The coating on the shrimp and grouper was well seasoned and not overdone. Not thick and doughy. Even the conch fritters were light, not greasy or too dense. Wasn't a fan of the smokey greens but the purple cabbage slaw made up for it.

While this may not matter to some, the little things impress me most. I don't know if this is what all their to-go items come in, but they provide reusable containers with lids. Not flimsy Styrofoam that pollutes the earth and ends up in landfills and our oceans, REUSABLE containers...with tops. Yes and yes. Please and thank you. Also, might be trivial but....when you eat finger foods or saucy foods, there is nothing more annoying than running out of napkins. Their to-go cutlery set has 2 napkins. Perfect for getting that sauce off your hands AND mouth lol. To me, that just means the owners are thoughtful and consider the customer experience. A++ and round of applause. What's also very nice... at the tables outside their station, there are placemats and free water bottles. Again, just thoughtful.

I honestly can't wait to go back. They are open late (like 1am) for my fellow night owl friends. Definitely a new favorite spot. If you are on the fence, give it a go. Pretty sure you won't be...

not gonna lie, I ordered this because it was one of the only places open at the time and it ended up being some of the best food I’ve had in a while! I ordered the coconut shrimp platter which was absolutely bursting with flavor, and a generous portion size - I was full after eating about half it but kept going because it really was just that good. I highly recommend...

The food here has impeccable, flavor filled taste that awakens your taste buds. I would recommend the 'Boas'. Its soft layer of bread is the perfect combination with their scrumptious shrimp or jerk pork/chicken mended in between. Definitely a taste of the caribbean that reminds me of home...
