I've eaten here many times in the 10 years or so (?) that they've been here. I'm surprised to see I've never reviewed them before. Their food, teas and brick toast desserts are excellent and consistently made. Their bread is perfectly toasted / pressed. Their menu hasn't changed much in that time, so I've tried all of their sandwiches and drank at least a third of their teas, maybe half. Brick toast in general is unique if you ask me. Their tea is high quality and served in large mugs, which is ideal. I'm a tea drinker, not a coffee drinker, and they serve the best. It's also a bit pricey if you ask me at $5 a cup. But I absolutely love that they serve hot tea that's immediately drinkable, which shows they are conscious of the temperature of the water, unlike corporate chains that just blast it with a boiling hot water valve, cover it and give it to you. If you research looseleaf tea, you'll discover that different types of teas from around the world often have different recommended temperatures to get the most flavor from the leaves without burning them or making it more bitter, and most absolutely do not have to steep in near boiling water. One thing I'm not a fan of is how small and quiet the place is. They only have six or seven tables which fill up quickly at peak times and then it's a long wait if you want to. I don't do take out so I've walked in and out a handful of times over the years, although admittedly this was worse pre-COVID; these days either they are less busy or more people take out. It's also pretty quiet with young hip clientele, which makes sense as it's a cafe. That's good for conversations and peace, but you can overhear a lot and feel very close to the couple sitting right next to you talking about something you're trying your best to ignore lol. Overall for me, it's a great cafe with a sometimes awkward atmosphere. Bathrooms are clean, but could be livened up. Sometimes, though rare, tables and chairs feel a bit sticky from desserts. If they are coming up on a 10 year anniversary or something, I recommend they change some things up, maybe new dishes, snappy jazz music, some plants and color, some baffles, etc. Or if business is already perfect,...
Read morePulling in I was a little off put by the exterior appearance, with over grown grass and graffiti on the sign.. I should’ve taken that as a clue, and just left.. but I didn’t. The inside of the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired, aside from there name in big lights, there’s not much of decor or an aesthetic… the only person that was friendly was the petite American girl with glasses, everyone else working there seemed annoyed, and didn’t even crack a smile. I honestly don’t know how this place has such high reviews, when the quality of their sandwiches is so poor. I am very picky with meat, and ordered the gra-prow chicken sandwich.. assuming that at $14 it would be a chicken breast sandwich.. but I was wrong, they use processed grilled chicken strips, the ones with the fake grill marks that probably come frozen.. the texture of the chicken was chewy and the lowest quality. At their price point for sandwiches, you’d expect higher quality ingredients.. so just be aware of this when considering dining here. I took out nearly all of the chicken from my sandwich, and essentially just ate the bread with the remaining ingredients.. you’d think they would’ve tried to inquire if something was wrong with the chicken, but nope.. so I paid my nearly $20, for a sandwich and tea and figured I’d just let those inquiring about this place know. I will say, the flavor of the sandwich was good, but between the service, ambience and quality of ingredients, I won’t be...
Read moreOmg. Yum! This might be best the best sandwich shop ever! First of all, whatever dressing they use in their salad is incredible. It’s like a light sesame vinaigrette, so good! The sandwich was one of the best sandwiches ever! The sunflower bread was crispy, but chewy, the flavors of the chicken and other ingredients in the Graw-Prow Chicken sandwich were just perfect. It was creamy and crunchy and chewy and perfectly spiced.
I tried cheese tea for the first time and I’m hooked. It’s so good! If you’ve never had it, don’t knock it till you try it. It’s also probably not what you’re thinking. Cheese and tea? It’s like whipped sweet cream cheese, kind of like a whipped cream topping on a drink, but thicker. Google it and then try it from this place! They have an extensive menu of other tea and drink choices as well if the cheese tea isn’t calling to you.
The dessert was a special for February for Valentine’s celebration. It was like a strawberry shortcake, but the bread were these chewy, crispy bites of toast. It was topped with strawberry ice cream, strawberries, whipped cream, and drizzled with what looked/tasted like condensed milk. It was delicious!
Each of the items listed above are pictured. I would recommend this place for anyone looking for a delicious sandwich or salad any time of the day! The outside looks a little unassuming and I’d recommend the shop to add some wording to the empty space below their sign. The empty sign makes the place...
