The other reviews are by people 65 and older which is the main crowd here. Stuffy and uninviting place be avoided. Understand this is from the perspective of a younger patron, any maybe that is why we were treated poorly. There are some good reviews, but heed our warning.
Where do I begin...Performance and performers were very high quality. Overall, building staff were very rude and brash. First, there is no parking. Prepare to walk and most spaces nearby are tow away zones. Then, others were in our front row seats when we arrived and they didn't ask them to go to their own assigned seats! We had to move! The woman who bought us the tickets was a donor. She wasn't pleased, understandably. We didn't care where we sat, but when relocating us, they were pushy and micromanaged us like dont sit there sit here. It was chaotic and gave us a terrible first impression. Additionally, when we asked if they had anything to eat, the rude staff woman shouted "No! We don't serve food! You can't bring anything in the theater!" We didn't purchase anything at the bar and I won't plan on purchasing anything from here ever, for that matter. I had my phone on silent, not even on vibrate and I got a silent text that my SO lost their debit card during the show. So, I quickly texted them that I'm stuck in here for 2 hours via text that ill call them back. We got called out and humiliated for that in front of the whole place by the same rude woman who wouldn't let us sit in our assigned seats. Truly awful. I nearly left then, but for the person who invited us. There was another cell phone that went off completely and not a word was said to them. Cant emphasize how much the staff woman was so negative and unwelcoming from the start. Really can't state enough how that set the tone for the entire 2 hour long show and ruined the experience. I couldn't wait to get out of there and I would have left had the grandmother figure not been there. There are so many other venues for entertainment including the normal movie theater where you only have to wear a hot uncomfortable mask when you enter and exit rather than the whole time. Now that there are vaccines and everyone in our party is vaccinated, they should take that into consideration. The performers only had face shields on. NSB Theater, Daytona Playhouse, Athens Theater DeLand, Wayne Densch in Sanford, Dr. Phillips, etc are other options for live shows where they have parking, snacks, and dont treat guests of any age so poorly. For a severely struggling non-profit that has been closed so long and blead revenue, and has a half empty Saturday show; customer service and pleasing guests, especially new customers when they are begging for donations should be #1. What is communicated to your guests is more effective and well received when the way it is communicated is pleasant, and the way you treat them from the moment they walk in the door is polite. I wouldn't want others to have an experience like ours there. I enjoy live shows like this, but I will never recommend this place. I don't know how they survive with staff like that? I was embarrassed to have a friend there.
Heed our warning. If you like shows but hate bad customer service,...
Read moreThe Winter Park Playhouse provides the pivoted relief when walls feel closed in from outside forces. The need for me to see live performances is as great as anyone who is a slave to an addiction. Those who know me will attest that rarely is there a week that goes by that the talents of others become an integral part of what motivates me. This is a live theatre that performs musicals with no negativity to be found. Bringing reassuring attributions to our lives that enrich us momentarily and often permanently. Heather Alexander greets everyone with such force of positivity that one feels the counter force that removes all negativity as you walk through left at the door. It might seem odd that I acknowledge a theater, but that is because you probably haven’t been fortunate enough to feel the power that embraces you in their productions. We all need a bit of magic dust spread over us, not to forget the bad, but to remember that there is so much greatness and she provides the stage to showcase it.
Having traveled the world, I can never recount an establishment anywhere that makes one feel life is more beautiful than this one piece of real estate in Winter Park, Florida. Some might say we have the Vatican, the Taj Mahal, and the Eiffel Tower as pillars of our society. These places all might move millions of visitors, and I have been to them all, but the Winter Park Playhouse makes me feel special instead of the place feeling special. So, I do know the power that the walls of this theatre hold of the talent which reveals a veil of encouragement to life. A greater gift would be hard to find, but greatness will be the reward you will find. Heather has permanently enlightened me, as she has thousands of others, with a...
Read moreI went to see Route 66 last night. What an amazing nostalgia trip back to my youth. If you are from the great era of the 1950s and 1960s, this is a must-see play. Everything from the adverts that were in my youth playing throughout the performance to the many trips I have taken down Route 66 over the years came to life, from the reflection on cars that I had owned during the era to the amazing talent that brought everything to life. I have seen probably over 90% of the plays that are staged in Central Florida over the past 10 years, and this ranks near if not at the top. As always, Heather can take you from her hug as you enter into a nostalgic stage of euphoria. The talent of the four actors is beyond what would be expected at the greatest stages of the world, and we are right here in Winter Park without having to catch a flight and waste countless hours at the airport.
So many blessings were bestowed on the audience last night. Go without hesitation, and you will feel...
