Words cannot begin to express how grateful we are that we came across Valhalla Bakery on instagram! We had been searching for a vegan bakery to make the cake for our destination wedding in Florida (We live in Maryland) and did not know what to expect. I first got in contact with Valhalla Bakery back in January of this year, and Jullz(Head Cake Decorator) got back to me so quickly! We planned for an in person tasting for July 2nd, but covid hit....... We truly thought our plans were going to be twarted but Jullz was such great help! They even had a little tasting-to-go set up for us and it was perfect. We thought we were just going to go with one flavor combo for all three tiers but when we tried their key lime butter cream with their coconut cake and their key lime filling AND their bourbon buttercream with their almond cake and their peanut butter cream filling OMG, we were so torn! And then Jullz let us know that they would have no trouble making the tiers different flavor combos and making it look like one unified cake!!!!! While I’m writing this review my mouth is literally watering!
Because of Covid, our guest count went down from 150 to about 30 people so we decided to make the cake two tiers instead and just have the third tier pre-boxed for us to take back home with us. Jullz was so accommodating!! Honestly love her and wish we had gotten to meet her in person. With all the running around the day of the wedding (October 17th, 2020), we missed her when she delivered the cake to us from Orlando to New Smyrna where the wedding was being held.
Our guests were in awe! The cake looked absolutely perfect, and the taste of both tiers was out of this world! People were skeptical about the bourbon buttercream with the almond cake and the peanut butter cream filling but once they tried it, they finally understood our obsession. Even with everyone having two slices (one of each flavor combo) there was still a lot of leftover, and my husband and I could not be happier to have all the leftover and the top tier that was nicely packaged for us all to ourselves. We drove back to Maryland with what was left of the cake, shared some with friends that could not attend the wedding, and kept a good chunk for ourselves too. I kid you not, the leftovers did not survive more than a week. It was just too good! And once the leftover cake was done, we couldn’t resist cutting into the top tier. We are probably cursed for breaking the “freeze the top tier” tradition! But that is something we were willing to face for the sake of enjoying Valhalla Bakery’s amazing creation.
Valhalla Bakery will forever be a definite stop whenever we are in Florida again. Now I just have to convince my husband that we need to move to Florida so that we can be closer to them and I can indulge more often!
From the deepest core of our hearts, thank you so soooo much Jullz and the rest of the Valhalla Bakery team. You guys truly...
Read moreThese people should not be doing weddings. I woke up on the morning of my wedding with a voicemail from Juhlz (sp?)
The night before my wedding (valentines day) at 8pm, she called to say the cake has not been paid in full and she will not be baking it unless I call her back. I called her as soon as I woke up on my wedding day. She said she did not make the cake overnight and there's no way she can get it done for me.
By the way, they send the invoice in 2 separate payments, months apart, or it would have been paid in full the day we ordered...my grandma was the one paying for it. (Half of it had been paid)
I told Julz that I thought my grandma had paid for it but that she definitely will but I need my wedding cake as I am vegan and can't find another in 5 hours.
She wanted to argue with me and tell me how she has sent me multiple emails about payment. I told her I had never received those and she was adamant on sending me screen shots to prove she was right. I wasn't interested in getting to the bottom of what happened ON MY WEDDING DAY. I wanted her to bake my cake, period. She was not willing.
Someone finally called the owner, Celine, who was out of town, and then Julz was able to make my cake. I also had donuts ordered from Valkyrie that they said it wasn't going to happen, so I had to order $250 worth of donuts from Voodoo. Hours later, after arguing with a man who works there, Celine made it happen and they got the donuts made as well.
However, they cancelled my delivery so they had to bring it 2 hours early, which is before my flowers arrived, and the delivery person was supposed to decorate my cake.
The ONLY saving grace that kept this review from getting 1 star is that the cake tasted AMAZING! It was the best cake I've ever tasted, and the guests agreed. We got chocolate chip cake with raspberry filling and elderflower frosting.
I expected a call from the owner since Julz almost ruined my wedding day. She should not be speaking with customers under any circumstance. Her gift is baking, not compassion or customer service.
I would order cakes here for unimportant events, but these people are totally clueless about the...
Read moreI love ordering birthday cakes from Valhalla. I lost count of how many cakes I’ve ordered from Valhalla. This year we ordered a cake for my mother in laws birthday (lemon rosemary) and it was beautiful and delicious. For my son’s bday two years ago we did the Pokémon cake. I asked them to make it look like a pokeball and they didn’t disappoint. This year I needed a Nemo cake and gave them my vision and they brought it to life. I provided the cake topper fish, jellyfish, and seahorse. But they created the bubbles, coral, and seaweed. They also put the Graham crackers crumbles at the bottom to look like sand. We also ordered the Ube coconut bar as my husband loves Ube. He said you can actually taste the Ube. Other places it’s a light flavoring but this was noticeable and delicious. Their customer service is wonderful. When I was ordering the lemon rosemary cake I called several times and they were so kind and gracious. I finally placed the order and they let me know as soon as my family member picked it up. I am so glad Valhalla continue to thrives in the Orlando area. They are a unique and much needed bakery. We struggle with lactose intolerance and we need bakeries like Valhalla ! Thank you all for providing such delicious treats. Update September: Carrot cake birthday cake from Valhalla. They continue to do a great job. Never been disappointed in...
